    BLOBPUS Diablo: A Review
Ok, i've never felt compelled to offer up a review here but this here diablo toy by mr blobpus is just begging for it.

there are some good things......very good things about this toy, and there are some bad things....really bad things about this toy i hate to say.

you may remember my original post where i declared this about the best thing i've seen all year. i would like to retract that statement. i can't fully say that in light of having received my first, the clear amber. i have a painted one coming and i would like to hope that it would make up for it when painted but even beautiful paint can disguise a bad sculpt.

Some of you have complained about the elongonated figure. this doesn't really bother me so much, other than it looks like his tits are on his shoulders.

this effect can be seen more clearly when laying the figure on its backside. but that's not even my main issue. the biggest things wrong with the sculpture are, most majorly, the left arm and hand. these are so badly executed, i would think an fifth grader could duplicate it quite easily. it's like he went to make a hand, flubbed that, decided to add more fingers and sort of call it a paw and then attach it to a broken arm.

then let's swing around to the back, where there are these little itty bitty wing nubs that are on upside down!! these wings wouldn't support the weight of his head, let along the whole body.

also, this is the first time a blobpus character is wearing clothes....why? and why the familiar skull attachment that has almost no linkage to any other figure he has created thus far.

with all my negativity thus far, you might ask, well, what is good about this toy? well, i'll tell you: the skull. the skull is perfect, absolutely flawless blobpus.

it just looks like he attached it to the wrong body or created it in a rush and settled for something. possibly influenced by the usigrow, who knows?

i am a huge blobpus fan, as you all know, but i am not impressed overall with this toy so, i'm kinda doing this as a consumer alert. maybe you don't care, but i feel hugely cheated. ;(

    discuss...

    :)

Thanks for the detailed pics and your pros/cons.
It really is hard to buy a new sculpt without seeing it in person.

I see what you are saying about the hand... some nasty sharp claws would have been much more exciting instead of a lame ass paw...!!!

I'm not so concerned with the boobies on the shoulder bit but that silly hand is definitely a bad move for this would be evil sculpt... hmmm...

I'm still looking forward to getting mine in the mail so we shall see if I'm overwhelmed with disappointment or delight... hopefully the painted version will be much more striking than the amber after seeing the pictures you have delightfully shared with us...

Thanks for the awesome review and imagery Paul...!!!

honestly as soon as I saw the pics of this sculpt I was perplexed as to how the same guy who has sculpted all those great Blobpus pieces could have made this...it just isn't good. It almost doesn't even deserve the dissertation it received here...

the one word review slack wrote is more than enough.

Eh, people hated Docross when that came out last year. I say give it a chance and a few different paint apps.

What's underneath the arm extension? It looks like another hand..?

I hope these get different arm extensions, so I can pop them off and give them to my Last Kaiju. :D

Under the skull-arm extension is an amputated stump (hacked off at the wrist, wrapped in what appears to be gauze).

I got mine a couple of days ago and must say that I've got no complaints.

i dont think it looks THAT bad at all i sorta think the gimpy paw arm is sprta nicely suited to the rest of the fig including the messaged up zombie cluster fuck arm, i do think its a massive jump for the blobpus franchise but im sure people will warm up to it

Will have to wait to see it in person to be sure, but I basically agree. The head is excellent, especially the horns & eyes. The body, not so much. The lower body looks pretty boring too. Maybe some goat legs would've helped.

Funny....that was my problem with the Usigrow too. Solid looking head sculpt and would have been all over it, if it weren't on such an awkward-looking body that doesn't really match.

I can't speak much to the Blobpus, but I can see where you're coming from.

    Thanks for the review.

We took one look at this and decided not to carry it.

Huh. That doesn't make sense, unless I am totally missing something -- You guys accepted preorders for it just last week.

I hear that a lot and feel the same way. The big version seems like it's trying too hard to be "evil" in a western sort of way. Then along came Diablo. :)

Blobpus, Blobpi, Dokugan, Last Kaiju and Cyclopus seem like a conceptual family. Each successive figure expanded upon the brilliance of the original Blob, rearranging elements and introducing new ones (with the exception of Cyclopus, which is just a hybrid.) Blobpi had a charming element of humor about it that no subsequent figure features. Diablo tries to connect to the original family while simultaneously acquiescing to (apparently) the Usugrow figure and even more of that western devil imagery. I like the idea of the Hedorah eyes but the elements don't congeal very nicely. I think this figure is like a sauce that "broke" instead of emulsifying.

I like that its elongated like the usugrow, love how that looks on a shelf, I like the arm with skull, reminds me of japanese demons and the wings really just look like horns to me, they almost look textured like the ones on its head but its hard to tell. To me it also has a mythological minotaur feel to it. The only thing I don't really like is the tentacles on the face, they would get all dried up and gross if they were in hell. Would have been better with something else on there, not just without them, then it would look really stupid

So where do you order these from if S7 isn't getting them?
