The Kaizine lists Shinto San as 'Real Head 12 Generals SERIES - Shintoh san'. Dragon ball and oni references have been talked about, but here's a link to the 12 generals. http://www.onmarkproductions.com/html/12-generals.shtml So far the paint on these haven't wooed me over, but I find the idea of a set of twelve pretty exciting. Imagine a set of twelve massive figures painted up by PK! The Gatchigon is listed as being in a diffent series, 'The lord of the beasts series' and is described as 'Lone beast and cub- Gatchigon'. Some connection to Lone Wolf and Cub?
i love street fighter. waiting for the 3D version to come out. yeah, street fighter gets me too hard. i always thought the shinto + others are more than just street fighter... didn't know what though but was always hoping for a deeper history. so good to hear his inspirations.
Seems to me that like other RxH figures, Shintosan incorporates inspriation from a lot of sources. I can totally see the Street Fighter and Dragonball and even Pinwheel and Fink.Shit allusions that others have pointed out but really appreciate knowing about the non-pop historical tributaries as well. I like it because at first glance it does look very manga, but the more you consider what's going on in the sculpt, deeper levels of connotation come up. I love the "what is reallly going on here?" mystery, and the sentinal-like presence that the figure has. If I were slightly more mystically inclined, I might even regard having the figures around as a form of magical protection, sort of like how some people have African fetishes or Asian masks in their homes for protection. He may have a sort of cartoon look, but he also has the august presence of a demigod.
I love this post. I know what you mean though. There are plenty of toys and collections out there that I respect and find interesting, but they're not for me.
please move this to the SHOW YOUR COLLECTIONS forum! just kidding... this is a much appreciated and informative post.
Well I am just typing what I feel baby!!!! Go with it! Honestly - I love the history behind the toys and how they get made but the Shinto shan is honestly one of the RxH figures I don't really like. That's what makes this hobby interesteing - Obviously I am not a RxH completist!
Well I for one am just glad to see that there may be deeper thinking going on these sculpts than just the obvious manga/anime connections. It gives the toy a more refined air about them
Or maybe they sent him to the factory when the moon was only half full? I could go all Jungian on the interpretation, but it'd be more interesting to know what Mori has to say about it.
Hey Guys, For the Origin of Gatchigon, I can say so little. Mori has explained to me what the story behind this simple yet cool character is. To explain it easy, he is a Bamboo alien from another dimention in time. the baby represents the little bamboo shoots. Thier world is being messed up at the moment so they came to visit our world to find a new home. Thats all I can say about him. with Shintosan, it's still a mystery. But I'll try and get it. Hiro
What do you think? http://www.dvhardware.net/article22831.html They don't say exactly, it's all a secret, but the hint its in the trailer.
Ugh -- That does not bode well. If they fuck that up the entire SF community will be thrown into an apocalyptic nerdrage. The wait has been long enough and they have huge shoes to fill.
