Anyone notice that there are tons of MVH fakes floating around. Super annoying, i hate when artists get so popular that it becomes difficult to find authentic vs fake merchandise. I would never support it but a friend accidentally got scammed. Will this trend continue? guess we can just collectively not support these bootleggers.
Notice these all say from China - clear cut problem. Number two: don't buy cheap stuff bc if it was authentic it wouldn't have these cheap prices. Also, some of colors were never released Fake paint jobs are generally easy to spot buy from real respected sellers with high feedback Do your research - spend a few hours going through MVH IG feed and you'll see years of official releases. Everybody knows who is making these fakes - won't repost here.
To be fair though the artist's own prices for the work have gotten so rediculous just to obtain one I dont blame ppl for wanting to bootleg the work and im normally against that.
There are simply more fakes in general, and they mostly originate from one single disgruntled psycho with too much money and too little brains. When you purchase fakes, you support him, so you might want to weigh how much a rip-off of an artist's hard work is really worth to you.
If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. I never buy aftermarket unless it's from a trusted collector. "I'm normally against lying to people to steal their money until I'm not"
actually insane to think someone would want the bootleg? like if you take pride in your collection... in what world does having a bootleg feel good? hes got boot nags, hxs, rxh, illsynapse.. yet you rarely see their names in this type of conversation
There are tons of fake floating around on Yahoo Japan, eBay, etc. Don't fall for "good price" , if it sounds too good to be true, it normally is too good to be true lol. Do your home work and usually fakes are smaller than the original and paint jobs are off. Ask for a second opinion from an experienced collector.
Thanks for all the responses. I know the main bootlegger dude cus ive seen his instagram and yes it does seem slightly psychotic to sit around and copy other peoples vinyl all the time. I'm generally good at telling the difference. I feel like the blank sam dx on vicious fun may be a fake. I just feel lucky to have an authentic mutant boy dx. I'm not the most dedicated MvH collector, mostly stick to resin bog dwellers honestly, but it kinda stinks having to worry about sorting through a bunch of bootlegs. JW if people noticed it more than usual right now.
I agree, I'd rather not own real one than buying a bootleg, especially quality of the bootleg usually is garbage.
If you wanna steal ppls money thats on you. Plenty of ppl buy bootleg toys. And some literally only collect bootleg. Thats in pretty much any hobby.
I agree and i think they should label such as bootleged so that the buyer knows but we all know they wont.
its never slowed down since he started. the VF dx looks very original from the post mostly because the bootlegger hasnt posted black dx knives before. i know the hobby is cool and exciting but if you just keep attending shows like FPF youll get original work straight from the source. i know you did the past two and im confident you scored some cool stuff. patience is the real name of the hobby. even dedicated vintage collectors i know just discovered a whole "new" batch of miura toys AND theyre available for purchase.... just not cheap
Just ask for feet pics where light reflects details. if they dont want to do that for you, its fakeeee. also yeah know the colorways, and paints... if its too good to be true, yadda yadda... like any other market, if it has some value, typically people will try to capitalize on that. if anyone ever needs a legit check, feel free to hit me up. do what you want with your money and your toys... don't be shocked and disgruntled at so many bootlegs out, when you had mvh paints at point of sale price, only to sell to the highest bidder...
you must not shop for them often. $5 is pretty standard according to my friend that goes to another school
bootlegs are poorly cast off of originals, so theyre smaller typically and the foot stamp detail looks like its not rendered fully
I’ll say this though. @Goldkobeca showed me this and at least it’s on the right track: new sculpt, obviously fake to the point of intentionally looking fake and cheap. If it wasn’t made by that one guy I might actually be into it. It’s so derpy it’s charming.
it's just his rip off the Hirota Gojira though? He has the money, and the tools to do something pretty decent. if he could just get his own ideas out versus blantant rips off of other artists hard work, blood sweat and tears... like i said, he posted metal casts of toys, and pretty dope, but man just do your own creations.
Absolutely. I’ve messaged him before, telling him this exact thing. In between all the gloating, he did tell me that he has a couple of original pieces out there under different names. After looking at them… well let’s just say that they all belong in the fugly thread. It’s a shame because he clearly has the means… but not much else going on for him.
