Moog's collection is to die for, but I only have eyes for that Young Ones photo on the wall! Is that signed or something? Or just a tribute to one of the best TV shows ever?
^^ It is indeed one of the best British comedies ever . . . . but no, its not an original. Somebody scanned their signed photo and was selling hi-res prints on ebay. It really looks like a real framed signed-photo but it is fake.
They're called breasts and everyone's got them! Even though I was able to go pick this up I still had to find it myself, as there were 17 in the store but no one knew exactly where they were. Yes, that is my toy invisible jet collection.
Ha Dave well at least you don't have to leave the country to find the closest Ikea! Fucking Buffalo is such a effin' suckhole! Those detolfs are surprising bulky and not much fun to carry into an upstairs apt by yourself. OK I'm digressing...anyhow nice Hukkokudo toys!
Thanks for the comments guys! I don't want to start a panic but... the sales people at that store told me these display cases were being DISCONTINUED.
Fuck I hope not. I just checked on the US and Canada sites and it does appear most local stores don't have them in stock. Maybe IKEA is in the process of just making more and they need to be shipped to North America? I find it hard to believe that they would get rid of a popular display cabinet. I mean detolfs span every nook an cranny of anyone who collects anything. EDIT: Nope, site says this on prognosis of returning: The product will soon be leaving our range, and may not come back in stock, so you may want to look for an alternative product. Fuck I was just thinking about maybe getting one more of these.
Looking online it seems they had been "discontinued" in 2011 due to supply issues, but then came back after a few months so hopefully that's the case again.
Oh crap... I had a bad feeling something like that was happening. They've been out of stock since November at my local IKEA. Now I'm wondering if I'll have a chance to get another... Agreed that it sure doesn't make sense for them to discontinue such a popular item. Hopefully something similar in size and shape will be offered as an alternative...
Put me down for 4! Wonderful collection, btw. Sooooo... according to a couple people on this other forum, the Detolf we know and love is NOT being discontinued. Instead, it's being repackaged in a 2 box deal with a different product #. http://www.sideshowcollectors.com/forum ... nued/page8 Taking that news with a grain of salt, but keeping hope alive. It certainly would make sense, as the 1 box package is very cumbersome.
This. I remember a few years ago they had this issue. I needed to buy one and they had like a 4 month period where they were out of stock. Similar talk about discontinuing them but they eventually came back. I would suggest though that you opt for different display options. While detolfs may be economic and good for a start up collection, they have some serious limitations, especially as your collection grows. If you're looking for something a little more cohesive id definitely suggest looking into Billy's. I've switched and have not looked back. (Thanks Scott)
I would have to agree. The whole time I was putting mine together I was thinking how would I move this? I guess I'll keep the boxes but they are not small. Also, you can't adjust the height of the shelves or add more shelves.
Yeah, serious limitation issues My collection has grown exponentially over the last 8 years and I only own 4 Detolfs, so if you know how to use risers you can fit a tons of toys in them. While I openly admit Detolfs aren't the most attractive shelving option, you can't beat them on price, nor viewing display angles. It's all glass. The Billy is ok, but you can't really see much from the sides.
Chris! Stunning as ever! Especially those running loose on the top right Just curious, how often do you dust your toys? I'm assuming those cases are not "air tight"?
