The recent 'Cowabunga Collection' is a labour of love too, the games are perfectly ported (with all the usual modern extras) and the background materials are very extensive to say the least. Apart from being obsessed with 'Breath of the Wild' .... i was very happy to see this pop up on the Arcade Archives. I've owned it on many a system, and now i have it on the switch. They had Puzzle Bobble (Bust-A-Move) on there for years, but for whatever reason it took a long time for the original to appear.
I've been playing a lot of Monster Train on my iPad, but other than that I haven't been gaming much. I did buy the remaster of Diablo II on sale, so I might play that next. I've never played Diablo, but a friend of mine said the remaster is a great place to start.
Has anyone played Ultra Kaiju Monster Rancher for Switch? Surprised it was granted a US release and tempted by the fact its currently on sale on the eShop...
Damn, I need to check that out. I still have to finish Pokémon Scarlet though. Just don’t have the motivation.
I used to love the monster rancher games. Loading CD's to find out what monster you got. There were some CD's that would give you unique monsters. God, it was so cool. And really tough. I remember there was a Tool album that gave you a bad ass monster. I think I've talked myself into getting a switch.
My gaming is primarily MAME arcade (Galaga, Metal Slug all time favourites), occasional Switch on holiday (Zelda taking forever - Divine Beat Vah Ruta proving too tricky). I noticed that my children have abandoned the PS4, in favour of PC gaming. I decided to dust it off and see what the games were like and a week later I have finished the first Uncharted and into the second. Loving them! When I get through the four uncharted games I think Tomb Raider is next unless anyone can recommend similar third person (first person makes me bilious) adventure/puzzlers.
Witcher 3 and red dead redemption 2, probably 2 of the best ps4 games, though adventurous and both long and expansive games with lots to do. they do lack the puzzle aspect.
witcher 3 is so good. That was my first pandemic game. I had it for years and couldn't get very far due to time. Then covid. And I had so much time for video games! I loved it! Not covid. Free time. I beat it in like three months.
Witcher 3 and Read Dead 2 have some of the best writing video games have to offer. No puzzles really, but if you like a strong narrative they're both excellent. I would also add Last of Us and Ghosts of Tsushima to your list. Witcher 3 just had a huge update as well. Not sure if it hit PS4 yet though... Never played the updated tomb raider so I can't comment there.
I watched my ex play the updated Tomb Raider sometimes, from what I saw it looked cool. He really enjoyed it. Also not surprised that your kids have become PC gamers, console games are appallingly expensive. On a good sale you can get a big name game for 75% on Steam.
My partner gets a ton of mileage out of theirs, probably their primary game system for the last several months. They mostly play JRPGs, indies and sims, nothing too graphically intensive. I think if you're looking at it as a replacement for the Switch, which can also play PC exclusives in a pinch, it fits that use case very well. Probably less ideal if you're playing a lot of shooters, want to crank graphics settings, or play anything at >60fps.
my sons got Pokemon Violet for Christmas so of coarse I'm hooked. Anyone else still playing? on Switch- just need help evolving final Pokemon. #GottaCatchemAll
Haven't played a Pokemon game since Black and White, but I've been meaning to try either Violet or Arceus soon. Will get back if I go for it. My fondest memories are playing Ruby late at night, staying up with my grandfather. I made good on a longstanding dream today, and bought the fanciest desktop PC I could afford. Hopefully Starfield actually releases this year.
I recommend Pokemon Violet/Scarlet. It's my first time playing a Pokemon game since the 3DS heyday and I enjoyed it. It's not perfect but its still everything you love about the game/play style.
I've not played Arceus or Voilet / Scarlet, but I know Arceus was super well received and V/S caught a lot of shit upon release. Might watch a review or two before deciding. Last one I played was Sword / Shield and that was enjoyable.
I remember buying one of those colored gameboy slim just to play Pokemon way back when. Haven't played any other Pokemon since. I just got Cult of the Lamb. Not yet started, looks cute and silly. Anyone tried?
If anyone's been following the Hitman series, I highly recommend going back for the new Freelancer mode. Turns a game that's about careful planning and memorisation into a high-stakes roguelike. I haven't played something this addictive in years.
I'm enjoying this new remaster of an old classic GameCube game. I still have my GC in a box with about 20 games, including this one. Not only are the graphics totally redone (rather than just enhanced) they've also improved the control system for the dual-sticks on the Switch. It was released with no hype or fanfare and at a lower price than most new Switch games. Obviously some people wouldn't spend their money on a game they already played in 2002, but when Nintendo put this much effort into it, i'm totally up for it
Prime was such an awesome game! I never did beat it. Might pick it up for the Switch one of these days...maybe after I play Dread. I'm very much a one-game-at-a-time player.
I didn't realise Metroid Dread was a side-scroller until recently. I will certainly be picking that up at some point, the screenshots I've seen look cool.
I tried dread on my nephews switch, and it was… ok. I’ve played ever other Metroid game short of Hunters, and while it was better than OtherM, I didn’t like it enough to finish it. I didn’t like the EMMI robot parts at all. I’m tempted to buy the remake of Prime though, just so I know I have it when I finally get around to buying my own switch. And speaking of remakes, I finished the Dead Space remake a week or two. It was great, it felt a lot like Dead Space 2 from a technical standpoint. The story was tweaked a bit in ways I didn’t think necessary; but I’ve played through all the original games multiple times so that’s a more of a nitpick from a the fanboy in me… I really hope they redo Dead Space 2 next. I just restarted Control Ultimate edition after rewatching Severance on AppleTV. I can’t wait to get into the really surreal bit again.
I was looking into buying 'Super Mario 3D All-Stars' on the Switch but people were saying the controls haven't been updated for Mario 64 and Sunshine, and the motion controls on Galaxy have been transferred to the touch screen, effectively making it unplayable in handheld mode. I then bought 'Super Mario Odyssey' instead, and i'm really glad i did. Its amazing! ... It also includes fairly frequent old school 2D sections. Loving it so far!
