I have a bunch of those stickers also Chris. And a postman egg one in Japanese. The egg stickers are my favorite. I have been trying to find them for a few days now.
I specifically remember a package arriving with this crazy-color left side sticker on top, and my postal carrier Janet raising one eyebrow, as though to ask "What in the world is this?" With nearly weightless packages from Japan arriving steadily, she must have wondered what was going on. (Of course, if you were addicted to Kaiju-Taro, you knew your postal carrier's first name.) I must have some old Kai-Zines somewhere ...
Wow! Thank you blakewest, michael, fun9us, and Chris! It's nice to see the stickers again! Especially the EGG one!!! Argh! I wish I had not thrown away my old boxes . That Egg one that goes on the outside of a parcel was my absolute favorite. I especially love Kaiju-Taro, as they had a fun website to browse through, they archived the sold toys (good reference), and they seem like really nice people. Prices were a little high to very decent, but I didn't find them outrageous. I miss them and the toys... P.S. If anyone has any spare Egg stickers, my "cats" would love to have one! P.P.S. Miami, my postal person said the same thing about my packages!
Sadly I mailed that boxed egg sticker, thinking I had another unstuck one! Here's my collection and the few stickers I have, wish I had more. I miss the Kalju-Taro days!
Ahh Ian so looking at your photo of old issues I see what looks like a holder for all the issues (cardboard colored on right) that says x12 on it. So there must have been 12 issues or maybe it was the 12th issue to hold them all? Memory is foggy but I think that was the case. I'm pissed I used to have that Sunguts issue 004 but somehow it got lost in a move! Also had 005! Maybe they will turn up in some box one day? I just have 003, 007, 008, 008, 011 now. I love the 'Don't Buy Kaiju Anymore' sticker. I remember it was hot competition to outclick other people looking for the same toys!
I'm no IP lawyer, but are the Kai-Zines even marked as copyrighted at all (with the little c in a circle)? If not, it may well be that there is no problem putting up scans, now I'm eager to see them! If they are copyrighted, perhaps someone here knows how to locate him, to ask for permission? OP maybe change the title of this thread, to something like "Kaiju-Taro love and Kai-Zine project"? There are bound to be lotsa other former K-T* fanboys here who would want to join in the reminiscing and scanning project fun. * - Just typing "K-T" alone brought back memories!
Isn't Terrible Whore the maker of Fucking Four Fingers an old KT employee? Someone should just ask him if it would be OK to scan issues.
Chris, it's a kind of binder but with hooks top and bottom to hold each issue. I seem to remember paying a minimal amount for it. 12 sets of hooks, but i'm sure there were only 11 issues also. Guess there would have been more if the shop had stayed running...
Something to that effect, yes. Though I don't know the particulars, I think both (or maybe either?) @terriblewhore and/or @hummingburger had something to do with K-T. Banshee, thanks 1M for this, I just emailed them to ask if any Uncle Taro figures are still available, there are three more shown there on tonite.jp, beyond the flesh blank ... I have SUCH warm memories of those wondrous K-T boxes arriving back in 07-08, I would love an Uncle Taro vinyl.

Did they ever make a full sized Uncle Taro? I can't remember! smo9monster kindly posted issues 4-10. I know that Issue 11 was the buta special. Anyone have issues 1-3? If so, can you please post the cover pages? It's a shame we can't post the contents, I would like to see what's inside them!
Has anybody actually offically said that or is it just fear-mongering and speculation that we can't post the contents? I personally don't see any problem scanning and posting pages of a free zine.. If I had copies I wouldn't hesitate in posting pages for people to read. Where's the harm in that? We live in a time where people are selling drawings of Marvel characters and enamel pins of Simpsons screen grabs.. I'm sure if people can get away with that then sharing some text and pictures from a giveaway pamphlet wouldn't be an issue. Get it?? "issue" like an "issue" of Kai-zine.. it's an issue. Now I need a t"issue" while I cry myself to sleep because I can't read scans of this lost treasure
I figured it was more or less a matter of finding someone who was actually willing to scan them at this point.
i really want to see what's inside 1,2,3,5,6,7, and 8! Scanning shouldn't be too bad if you use the tabloid setting on a scanner, but who do we get permission from? Unfortunately, I can't read the Kanji to determine who to contact. Even though it's a free magazine, I'm sure it's copyrighted. ...hmmm was that a real word? p.s. and we have to figure out who has what issues to put together a set!
OK, I'm going to go ahead and start scanning! The problem is, the issues I do have are all in fairly poor condition since I got them from someone who'd kept them in a damp environment.. Please DM me if you're willing to lend me your issues for scanning! I'll be using a high-end flatbed that has great color fidelity and resolution. I'm happy to pay for shipping both directions. When the scans are finished, I'll throw them up on an S3 bucket for everyone to download. By the way, if you are willing to let me cut the spine of your issue (say if you have a duplicate?) let me know, because I can produce a slightly higher scan in that case (since the page will be perfectly flat against the scanner.) We need permission to post our scans. I just brought in to work, issues 4, 9, 10, and 11 (a red-white-blue sticker just fell out of Issue 10!!! ), I still have the tear-away order flap for that special binder. I DID get permission from Wheatpond to post a Want in the Want section for Kaizines, just didn't want anyone to think I was "cutting in line" Wish me luck!
Just been in touch with one of the editors and got a response in regards to posting scans. I'll post details to people who have copies and are able to scan them
yeah the gist of the scan permission status is: no one can get the whole gang of folks involved to approve it, but also so far no one gives a shit. given how the DMCA works, i feel pretty OK posting them and then taking em down if anyone objects.
