"...................seriously? But...I mean it's just a fucking gorilla (dinosaur/godzilla/weird thing/pokemon).......I don't get it dude." "But...they're all the same, just different colors. Why?" "THAT LOOKS LIKE FUCKING SHIT" "Oh you just have them to sell...wait...you keep them? But to sell right? Oh. OK. I'd just sell them man and buy a TV or something." All real things I've heard.
I hate the wide cultural idea that popularity equates normality. I don't care if millions and millions of Americans are into it, I think a fascination and following of celebrities you don't personally know is weird. I guess what really surprises me the most though, is just a lack of curiosity or understanding. Most of the time if I'm introduced to something new, even if I have no initial interest in it or don't like it I at least want to know a little bit about it to understand it.
Sometimes it weirds me out that nobody gets weirded out about my toys. Even people who have never heard of Japanese monsters seem to think they're interesting enough to ask questions about. I've been waiting for the day that someone will say "grow up!" or "what a waste of money!" to arrive for years and years, but most people seem to think that eccentric collections are kinda cool. [paranoid expression] Maybe they're just calling me immature and wasteful behind my back
at least you don't have friends that threaten to break in and steal your stuff for resale. i've also had a fair share of being called crazy and a few looks of disgust here and there.
My better half always tells me: "Why dont you sell your toys at the prices you're always complaining they are on ebay and with the money buy those toys instead?"
In my case, most people don't get it, so I prefer no to tell. My mother once told me ' you had a wonderful and whole childhood, why do you need to have toys and play video games now? No one does that.' So yeah, she meant 'grow up'. I've heard this one too. 'why don't you make them instead of buying them?' A lot of people don't get why would you buy something you like just because you like it. (I mean, they do get it if THEY like it)
Two police officers came into my house a year ago when I found my garage door open (thought someone broke in but door motor failed) and his partner goes whats this? He goes oh these are highly collectable vinyl toys that are worth money.
^^^this^^^ I'm glad I don't have to deal with any of this, I only date nerds and my family gets this and alot more so I have rarely ever had to deal with this, when I have it has been people that should have known better than to have even fucking brought another shitty human being with them into my dwelling (funny thing is after ditching just one scumbag from my life this hasn't happened in years) my mom even got phyched she got to go to super 7 the last time she was in cali, I'm pretty sure she bugged the shit out of Alex
My g/f hates the toys with a passion, my family has no opinion but I never see them, and anyone I've ever brought them up to in conversation- if they're my age gets it (source material not the toys). Otherwise it's a blank stare in convo (if someone sees me checking out pics in toy books at work/school). When I had room mates they'd only make rude comments like "Why don't you sell this shit?" Since I moved in with Kim almost 5 years ago no one has ever been in my apartment so no one besides the previous haters has ever seen my toy collection. Sad, that's why I share so much here... I really would not know what to do if someone who knew what they were was over.
I get mixed opinions, luckily my lady has gotten used to it and comes to events with me and actually enjoys them.. some of my friends think theyre cool, some dont even mention them or even look at them at all when theyre over and some of my friends think I've become very strange since starting to collect (I've always been, just didnt spend a bunch of my money on toys. ) Lucky for me my friend Dan, who always thought they were cool but said he'd never spend the money on them, ended up getting hooked and is now ready for his second detolf. muahaha now practically all we ever talk about is toys when we chill.
Honestly I posed this as a joke because I thought the gif was funny but while we're at it.. My favorite thing is people who walk into the store and look at the vintage bullmark and say "Oh you guys like Anime huh?"
