Again, gotta say that I love that some members here have awesome taste. I'm kinda out of my sludge, stoner, doom and post-metal phase right now (though, still love it of course) and going into a black metal phase. Lots of folk and post-bm, blacked death metal, progressive bla bla stuff lately: A Fine Boat, That Coffin!, Agalloch, Alcest, Amesoeurs, Bethlehem, Black Breath, Hacksaw to the Throat, Inter Arma, Katatonia, Mortifera, Peste Noire, etc., etc. It's funny. I was marveling at how many Black * bands I listen to the other day: Black Breath, Black Cobra, Black Elk, Black Flag, Black Math Horseman, Black Pyramid, Black Sabbath, Black Shape of Nexus, Black Sheep Wall, Black Sleep of Kali, Black Thai, Black Tusk, Blackwaves (BLCKWVS). Edit: Also adding: Burzum, Darkened Nocturn Slaughtercult and Gorgoroth. It's been a black metal weekend here.
I'm not too much into the new thrash revival thing , so I just discovered those 2 very good bands ; a must !
Just ordered a vinyl from Bongripper. Some unsigned doom metal I read about on the Mishka blog... Pretty cool... The limited edition Heroin album kit was hilarious wish I could have gotten that...
Hello SB! my musical taste are varied but mostly listen to underground hip hop, thrash metal, or grindcore. played guitar for yrs but this hip hop bug bit me. some of my favs are........ hip hop; living legends, company flow, afro classics, g&e, krs-1,mos def, and atmosphere. thrash; EXODUS(my all time favorite),slayer, and Municiple waste grindcore; Brutal truth,Exhumed, hemdale, and Nasum.
I mainly listen to early 80's hardcore/punk, and modern bands of that style. I also have a soft spot for straight edge / youth crew bands and power violence stuff. I also geek out on hair metal sometimes
Been listening to an awful lot of black metal myself lately. I actually just made a list recently of my top 50 bands from the genre. Altar of Plagues 5. Averse Sefira 6. Bethlehem 7. Blood of Kingu 8. Blut aus Nord 9. Burzum 10. Celestia 11. Cobalt 12. Countess 13. Darkthrone 14. Deathspell Omega 15. Destroyer 666 16. I don't really get into too much crazy loud stuff but the only grindish band I can get into is Shitstorm from beautiful sunny South Florida.
Good band. My band, Bloodtype just did a split 7" w/ a band from FL called INJ/SYS (Injustice System). I think they're from the Tampa area.
Great list brooks55 but you forgot some classic ! Strid - Kvist - Ildjarn - Mysticum - Akitsa - Hemlock !! Come on ! get rid of those fashionable Deathspell Omega, Nachtmystium, Averse Sefira (?!)
Nice list, brooks -- I've not heard of some of them and will check 'em out. Nachtmystium was supposed to play with Destroyer 666 a few weeks ago but fell off the tour, or something. Not really sure what happened there, good show regardless. INJ/SYS is playing here (Tampa, hurrr) soon. I just bought their Spoken Word 7" and the Bloodtype split 7". I always like finding better-than-mediocre local bands. The Magrudergrind / Shitstorm split 12" is pretty damn good.
Thanks guys. I've got the Strid compilation & Kvist's full length. I tried to leave off bands that only had one album, while they may be classics, it's just not enough material for me to consider them one of my favorite bands. If that was not the case, I would definitely have Weakling on there. Dead as Dreams is one of my favorite albums of all time. I will be sure to check out Mysticum, Akitsa, & Hemlock. Never could get into Ildjarn really. I agree that some of the bands on my list are "fashionable", but I really enjoy their music regardless. Yes banshee, the Destroyer 666 show was great. Glad I finally got to see them live.
Ah yes, their new album is amazing IMO. Still trying to get a physical copy without paying $20.00 for it. Hopefully more places in the US will be carrying it soon. The Ghost of Heritage is really good too.
Lately it's been all about the following And yes, I realize this is quite the obvious example of "one of these things is not like the other."
But, The Con IS amazing, and has my favorite closing track of almost any album. I've just been putting So Jealous and If It Was You on repeat lately, though.
AWESOME! I sing in Bloodtype, if you like our side we have a 7" that just came out on Cowabunga Records.
