I don't give really care that much about star wars (except stormtrooper design), even less about VW as a brand but I think it's a great campaign (and living in a city full of VWs and where traffic polution is an issue I feel like it deserves to be spreaded).

I don't know anything about what emissions-standards VW is fighting, but I do think we tend to get caught-up in the raw emissions data, rather than looking at how that # translates into everyday use. I believe that Europe has lower emissions standards (dirtier exhaust), but they have cars that get excellent gas mileage. So while the emissions that result from a single piston firing would be dirtier in Europe than it would be in the US, the amount of gas burned on a trip to the grocery store would be far less resulting in fewer emissions.
I can't understand why Europe has cars that'll do 70mpg, but we're still thinking of 30mpg as a fairly fuel efficient vehicle. And on the other side, I can't understand why European auto makers are just now getting around to making hybrid and electric cars - seems like they should have been the front-runners with this technology.

Don't forget the many beloved classic VW's that are still running, thereby conserving resources that it would take to build new cars.
Those commercials are pretty cute... though they might make jmf337 cry. ;)

I can see the point they are trying to make but i also feel like the ad campaign is to cute and kitsch so the whole thing feels like a watered down attempt at getting a real message across

VW does have the best damn commecials in the industry.

Rudebeast, where do you live, and can you really blame VW for your pollution problem?

VW does do their part, maybe not so much on the cheaper cars but they can't price themselves out of the game. Watch this vid, it is pretty amazing.

AND, they should have this into production very soon.

vw developed a 100 mile / liter vehicle and at the same time, under the same management (dr. ferdinand piech), engineered the 1001hp w12 veyron. the reality is that the market exists for one million dollar supercars but no one will pay the same price for super efficiency.

also, Biggs was right, I am never gonna get out of here!

Only one more season... this year we'll make enough on the harvest so I'll be able to hire some
more hands. And then you can go to the Academy next year.

I don't see a Copyright or Used with Permission on any of that Star Wars stuff... is Greenpeace above IP laws?

I live in Milan, Italy where there's enough polution to complain.
Having said that I'm not blaiming VW although to be honest Touaregs are among the various cars I hate seeing around town. Not only Touaregs but all big, pointless fuel hogs, starting from this stupid SUV craze that has taken many European cities by storm. They're just another example of cars you really don't need in a town like Milan (especially when you grew up seeing everyone using small cars, with less polution and less traffic).
I just posted the Greenpeace ad because I personally liked it and wanted to share.
The day that manufacturers start seriously marketing models like the one above I will be the first to cheer, in the meantime fuck 'em all, including city councils that don't introduce serious public transport poliicies (and force the cars out from the city centers).
