Beautiful colours on that one, Rei. I'd share my own, but don't have an 'outdoor' photo of him.

In terms of the discussion going in earlier, with possible non-scrupulous buyers being - let's say generously - vague about the age of toys, and upping substantially the asking price for them, I would caution that, while there might be a lot of buyer protection out there as Sanjeev pointed out, there is certainly a 'grey' area where a lot of sellers can sit and cover themselves against these liabilities. As a case example I'd cite the Bandai repros of standard Bullmark toys that came out in the early nineties (like the aforementioned Baltan). Now, I am not saying this is necessarily the case, BUT, I would point out that to some people (which generally fall into the very young, the naive/uninformed, or the purposefully misleading) can describe toys from the '90s as - ahem - "vintage." So, while we as collectors know what this term generally refers to, and though there are certain lines which may or may not fall within it, depending on each individual's definition, I think it is worth noting/paying attention to the fact that this is not a clearly defined term. So, while you might think a seller labelling such a toy as vintage is either a lie or scam, even if it is such, they might make a case that this is based on their own knowledge or standards. I bring this up because yes, I have seen plenty of toys from the 80s, 90s, and even later listed as "vintage," heck, even some stuff from the Star Wars POTF2 lines are out there. So please just be careful when buying. The simple fact is vintage is a qualitative term, and should be regarded as such, general understanding aside. If I were making an investment on any toy, I always try to ask for specific age or decade of it, and a history if possible. Failure to answer or answers which make me doubt that a toy is an original Bullmark/Marusan/etc. are immediate red flags.

Again, I am not saying this is necessarily intentional, but just be informed. Doing your homework and asking questions can really limit you getting burned on toys (we've probably all been there at some point). Reading up on things like SB, going through the monster books, comparing photos online, it all helps. I know I've reached out to other great boardies on several occasions through the years (@XVivaHateX @chimply.kaiju @Geekabilly @scobot @Sanjeev , to name just a few) for advice/questions.

Per above, I've been trying to acquire vintage minis for years, mostly on YJA, sometimes e**y or Mandarake and it looks to me like more and more sellers are playing dumb; even using pictures that aren't quite the picture of what is being sold and using the phrases "Showa era", "time thing" , etc. as well as vintage as approximate, emotive descriptors rather than as literals. I've gotten about 6-7 minis over the last few years that I swore were real when I looked at the pic and read the translation, but seem to be awfully fresh for a 40 year old toy when I get them. If it's happening to me, it is probably happening to others as well. Is there a knockoff garage somewhere using the old molds? Is that a common thing that I'm just figuring out while the rest of you guys have all moved past? Most curious about this.

I need clarification on the variants of vintage Bullmark Zazahn. So according to CT there are 3 versions, normal and 2 others. As far as I can tell there is the normal (with greener face), then a blue faced version, but what is different about the 3rd? This looks like it could be that one in the middle on the CT entry page.

Sorry Chris, didn't see this until just now, but Zazahn is definitely one of those guys that seems to have a lot of variants out there, due to the odd patterns used on the body and the multiple colours used on him. I am not sure it is related to just the three mentioned/depicted on CT (in addition of course, to the unmentioned GID beauty). I think the primary difference there is that the second one has a noticeable addition of yellow paint, instead of the more cream from the standard. I think possibly the 3rd version is actually a different blue vinyl base, and not necessarily the slight change in face paint, but I don't know for certain. As I mentioned, there is a great variety of these out there, and it wouldn't even surprise me to see some insane Japanese collector with a shelf full of rainbow Z's, all different. I need to dig up the the picture if I have it, but for instance I have one that completely omits the red accents altogether.
