Re: New Secret Base ^It's interesting to see the different patterns. The pirate side of this guy, and the 2 Andy Skullwings from SF(brown and blue) have similar effects, which is a lot less "streaky" or "stripey" when compared to the other marbled pieces.
Re: New Secret Base That is true about the Andy's also. There was a lot more color than GID in the ones (Blue / Brown) I got so maybe that's why they don't seem to have the same feel. Maybe it's a new GID or a different way of mixing them?
Re: New Secret Base No luck for me this time around. would have loved to pick up my first Siamese. Oh well! Eventually
Re: New Secret Base I think it's all luck of the draw- my Osaka Wing has a marbling similar to that new Siamese (which is nice btw) on its head as well, with more of a blended look than a marbling, where the purple and green almost blend into a brown. Looking at it, and from what I've seen in video of how sofubi is made, it looks like when the two colors where poured, maybe they both hit the same part of the mold (the top of the head) at nearly the same time and blended before either had anytime to set/cool/whatever which would make more of a marbled look. My Andy wing has a much smaller patch of this happening on the same spot, but maybe the pour was slightly staggered, or the two colors could have been pours into the mold at different points, or the mold could have been shook when it was poured... I'd love to see how exactly they pour marbled figures, because while its all left to chance, I wonder if you could influence the look by the way you pour the vinyl. Once the sun comes up I'll take some pictures of my wings to show you just what I mean.
Re: New Secret Base damn that thing is gorgeous mark... kind of a perfect late birthday surprise right?
Re: New Secret Base here's the pic of the top of my skullwings, where I'm assuming the vinyl hit first when it was poured, blending the two colors rather then marbling so much.
Re: New Secret Base so hot. Like Kat Dennings naked at a have heart show giving me the come get me eyes hot.
Re: New Secret Base personally i feel that its timely now to get past the marbled vinyls and move on. the marbling effect is nice but after more than a year now, it would be nice to see some old-fashioned hard-working paint schemes at some japanese paint shops. or some new & creative paint direction altogether. technically, marbled pieces are just random, unpainted pieces. i think they definitely have much more in them than to rely on mashed-up or putting marble treatment on every sculpt to keep things fresh.
Re: New Secret Base I would agree with you, but really though after a year has it been done all that much? Secret Base seems to be the only company putting them out. Besides the Pirate releases, which to be fair there seemed to be a lot of, there was a handful of Skullwings (which were pretty limited I'd say), some Painted Marbled Bagmen (pink/black, orange/black, blue/white, GID/Black), an Obake release (gid/black sheet) and some Obake Dogs. And only the Skullwings and Obake Dogs were lacking paint (not counting tampo prints) Personally I'd love to see a regular release of unpainted marbled versions of the other SB figures blind bagged. Random figures on random colored vinyl. After that I'd be ok if SB laid off the marble. But if they stopped doing marbled pours without doing at least a Skullbrain and Skullbee I'd be disappointed.
Re: New Secret Base not too keen on specific colors, im good with them all. id like to see a pre order run from SB... just saying, it'd be nice to have a guaranteed shot at the Pus items that Hiddy drops.
Re: New Secret Base Damn this looks rad! This time of year is so painful for me . . . so many rad things being released!
Re: New Secret Base SICK! Thanks for the info, Scapegoat! This will be my first time scoring a whole set (minus the bloody variants) on the first go. My wallet is SMOKING right now, though. Oof!
