This has been something that’s been on my mind for awhile but watching the Funko doc pushed the idea further out. This isn’t meant to rain on our parades, just something for us to think about especially now that so much information is available to us. I’m wondering what you guys think about how much plastic is an environmental concern. I guess it doesn’t apply so much to what we collect since we trade or sell our pieces off when we no longer want them. But regular kids toys are not usually recyclable so watching people buy Funko in the doc made me think about how many of those will go into the trash. Plus all the other material in regards to packaging.

There are tons of problems with the world but this one feels close to home not just because we collect but we all had toys as kids. I try to be as environmentally conscious as possible and do as much as I can to my abilities. But this definitely feels beyond any of our means to affect, I think it would take a world wide, environmental reset to change.

Here’s an article with some basic information/numbers to think about.

Hope to hear from you guys, not matter what your feelings on this are.

Fuck the world. Let it burn and melt to the ground for I care not about the environment. I also hate country scenery with a passion as I prefer skyscrapers and concrete jungles.

Also I love you all. ;)

I think about this all the time. I really do think it is something to talk about, or at least keep in the back of your head. I’m just gonna ramble a bit, but I hate fancy packaging that large toys come in. Such a waste, imo. Even like down to the fuel that is burned up distributing toys and other superfluous items all over our future wasteland. I try to give back to the planet anyway I can. They are small, but I think every small step helps.

Some simple things I do for the planet are: not eat meat (kind of a big one for some), recycle/reuse everything I can. Reusing is key, especially like boxes/packaging materials. Literally anything can be helpful, like one time I got an entire construction site to recycle all of their cans!

Also, it would b nice if people could kindly limit themselves to 2 children per family :dam:

I understand being concerned about it for sure but at the same time how many vinyl toys do you buy in a week? Or in a month? For me it's usually one or two a month.

I know people at work who go through at least five plastic water bottles every single day. They often even double that number. Tried before to get the boss to switch to paper containers or glass bottles but the vast majority of companies here have exclusive deals with specific water suppliers that don't give anyone a choice. So in just one day at work if all the plastic bottles are added up that would easily eclipse all the toys I have personally amassed over decades collecting toys.

So yes toys can be a concern but it seems to me like it wouldn't even add up to a drop in the ocean of how abused disposable plastic is throughout the world.

As I stated in my initial post, it doesn’t really apply to us since we are a small market, but toys in general. Since some collectors here have kids, it affects them a bit more. I didn’t have a ton of toys when I was kid, but my nephews did. Such a giant waste since it can’t be recycled.

And yes, enough with having kids. There are enough already in orphanages, can’t parents just adopt one from there? Reminds of Bill Burr joking about how much more grateful they would be. I don’t have first hand experience with adopted children or adults, but they can’t be any worse than the turds I’ve seen in my neck of the woods.

I think that toys are a small small part of a huge problem. People will stop buying toys(and stop making them) before people stop eating meat and using straws, so fuck it, here for a good time not a long time as they say.

Realistically I think we're already decades into the slow decline of toys- digital will overtake them almost completely, but there will always be a market for smaller indie toys like we here are fond of, and those won't cause problems at all. I can also see the technology getting to the point in our lifetime where toys are made with reusable 3D printed material.
