Lot of really great points here. There are tons of shitty, rip off, bootleg toys out there that get in the way of the real art, but we(fans) will be the ones that ultimately decide what's worthy and what isn't. So even if someone makes a some crappy knockoff of some killer toy and tries to sell it we will smack that shit down by not even paying attention to it , let alone buying something.

At any rate, making toys is fun. Learning to pour resin and making molds is also fun. Just make sure to respect other people and their work. Most of the time when I see a new figure the first thing I want to know is who sculpted it, I want to know who put the time and effort in to create something beautiful that I enjoy.

Perhaps your just being silly and I need to be a little less thin-skinned.
Do you seriously believe this has to do with a lack of morals? So someone makes a resin toy with a MOTU body and they in turn are lacking in morals? If that's the case I guess i am guilty by association since I have the sin of liking those immoral objects. Not only liking them, but actually purchasing them at times and supporting those depraved souls that make such graven images.
See how silly this is getting?
Except I'm not kidding. These threads always start out with a seemingly innocent question that turn into the harshest of condemnations.
Sometimes I get the feeling around here that we are at a Tea Party. And I don't mean the kind you invite your toys to. :D

this is the only point that needs to be made in my opinion. there is no line to be drawn somewhere else because these are "toys"

even if its "just for fun" or the person "isnt making any money off of it" its a little weird for me. maybe i need to shrink down some KAWS prints and sell them to some KR kids and turn a profit.

It has been said before. Shinking a bemon is crossing the line for me... It is just wrong when it is obvious the creator just wants to make the same toy in a different size.

Firstly motu bootlegs are another story and in my mind a different kind of bootleg, for starters they are made by a multi million dollar company not an independent sofubi maker, I'm referring to companies that we love in this community being ripped off, bemon and zollmen and possibly others that we haven't seen yet.

I don't think I'm being silly at all, if a sculptor spends hours sculpting and perfecting a toy, having it made in to vinyl, painting up runs then packaging, selling and distributing them to a fan base they have created don't you think its pretty disrespectful to take said toy and spend all of about an hours worth of effort shrinking it and recasting it in resin then cashing in because people like the original?

Kind of a interesting subject. I bootlegged some bootleg Mad Balls a couple years ago(You can see the clay proto here http://www.flickr.com/photos/29434787@N03/3430040975/). All I did was make some quick plaster molds and just rearranged parts I liked...Made a couple casts and sent them to some friends on the board(For free)...Then destroyed the mold. I never thought I was doing anything wrong and still don't. I think if you are doing it for a profit that is fine...Just try and get permission first.

One: there is nothing clever or ironic about recycling things I already posted when you are pretending to have me on ignore.

Two: even more amazing that you respond when I am specifically talking about you for someone who has me on ignore...

I think what he is trying to say is that people that went to art school realize that there is no such thing as an original anymore. Everything is a copy.
But he's just saying it in a more sarcastic way. :D

This is a board almost entirely founded by people who collect toys that are bootlegs of bootlegs, or bootlegs of multiple characters in 1 and "pay homages" to fucking everything. So..........whatever.

I love the resin boots. They rule.

"Bad artists borrow, good artists steal"

...funny, caus when i was younger i thought the statement was straight-up; as in that everything is "stolen" + no new ideas under the sun!

    THEN i got older:

IF something 'borrowed' - it remains the item of the party who made it.

IF something 'stolen' - the person taking has made it wholly their own.

...Borrowed thus is a straight rip-off, were item still retains all properties of the original. Stolen were a party takes something already existing, and makes it wholly their own.

Apply this to any art basically.

E.G - that fat, lecherous bastard, Picasso + African masks:
