great episode! Negan is one of the baddest baddies in all of television. You just never know if he is going to spare a life or just murder for the fun of it. Jeffrey Dean Morgan plays that role so well. I haven't read the comics so I don't know if he is true to the original character of Negan but he sure does play the shit out of that role!

Looks like you aren't the only one.

"As of this week's episode, The Walking Dead's ratings have dropped from 17 million at the Season 7 premiere down to 11 million for Episode 5, making for a 35 percent decline. While Season 7's current viewership numbers are still higher than the vast majority of all other television programs that are currently airing, the ratings for The Walking Dead haven't been this low since Season 3."

This show ought to be renamed the "Boring Dead". Far too many characters to get viewers involved in a few good storylines, silly plot devices, and characters making asinine decisions no one would make- let alone going against any development from previous seasons. I mean come on, Rick & Co went against crazier odds attacking Woodbury one night, guy has escaped so many near death situations even tearing some guys throat out with his teeth. Yet big bad Negan shows up and he becomes a church mouse- seriously this so called 'hardened crew' would have taken Negan out by now somehow and the rest of the Saviours would have crumbled. Show fucking sucks.

There are some episodes I enjoy but a so much of the show revolves around we can't be like Shane, let's be exactly like Shane, we can't be like Shane anymore, we have to be like Shane again! Pick a horse already.

Shane would have shoved the bat right up that hipster's ass on day one.

Show sort of died for me when Shane was killed off. I think that Daryl is a piss poor replacement for Rick's right hand man. Daryl is too sullen an moody and served the story better as the pissy redneck that would surprise you and be a team player from time to time.

Kirkman/AMC had a wonderful opportunity to maybe change the story a little bit and maybe send Shane away instead of killing him off (or at least make it appear that he died but we didn't see it and bring him back later- I mean so many others were seperated at the end of season 2). The tension btw Rick and Shane (but banking on their deep friendship at times) is what drove this show. When that disappeared and was replaced with the 'villain of the season' the zombies became a background element- show nosedived IMO.

Shane was such a good character and actor that I was pissed when they killed him off too. Glad he is getting his own netflix show soon though. I understood why they did it. The need to transition Rick from do-gooder into survivor but the fact they keep undoing and redoing that transition makes it feel so empty. What I can't get over this season as far as stupid moves go is not trying to take out the saviors when they showed up in Alexandria. Rick had lots of people, dozens of assault rifles and grenades and stuff. Just one way into the town. Why not kill everyone? Yeah they had Daryl as leverage but they all stayed on their knees while Abraham and Glen slowly got murdered so risking Daryl's life to save EVERYONE ELSE doesn't seem like much of a stretch.

Overall I think the approach the show is taking in general is what's costing them millions of viewers. The idiotic cliffhanger finale was a joke. Bashing a beloved character's head in while his pregnant wife is watching tuned out so many people. Then going straight into a light-hearted damn near comical episode with the lion king. Back to the now spineless group getting humiliated by Negan for an hour and a half. Then AGAIN to a light-hearted teen romance episode with one size fits all roller skates and girl power and a karate hippie. What the shit are they even thinking at this point? By constantly attempting to appeal to everyone they are appealing to no one at all.

They whole making everyone separate for individual stories before bringing them back at the end of the season for a showdown with whoever the new bad guy is got old awhile ago. I miss the zombies in part because these writers are awful at creating bad guys. The Governor was a joke. The good cop bad cop hospital lady was even worse. Negan was funny at first but his hipster radio show host act is just too much to take seriously. I didn't want to kill her cause she's super hot! But lessons must be taught even if you're super hot! Luckily she asked me to marry her and she's super hot! She was your super hot wife but now she's my super hot wife. Super hot super hot super hot!

Jeffrey Dan Morgan's choice of how to play Negan is nothing but annoying. Being a sociopath doesn't mean being over the top camp and showmanship. And the idea that they didn't just shoot him when he knocked at the gates alone is just lame. Everytime this show does a major evil character they show cartoonish understanding of human character.

It is starting to remind me of that show Lost which had great moments then continued to slide

Wonder if they will continue past the end of the comic book

    or

Will the comic book continue since the show eclipsed it in many ways

    On the other hand...

Ash vs. Evil Dead has not for a single frame, disappointed- nor do I feel it ever will

I've tried hard to like this new season, and i did enjoy the side-story episode with Tara
(even though some of the direction seemed quite dodgy in places). I'm finding it a bit patchy overall.

I agree, he is a good actor but the 'over the top camp and showmanship' is getting old already.

Also, the whole bit with Carl was irritating. He just blew the chance to kill Negan . . . . Carl is smart and mentally strong for a kid,
he wouldn't of just threw-away the opportunity like that.

I am enjoying Michonne returning to her kick-arse samurai sword roots, though.
    I could watch her chop-up walkers all day . . .

They finished the first half of what they do every single season. Now they'll take a few months off and do the second half of what they do every season.

I'm glad they lost 40% of their viewers. Hopefully it's a wake up call and next season has some new writers/directors and a more substantial budget. Makes no sense to have a show 5 to 8 times more popular than any other show on tv but with 1/3rd of the budget as lots of other shows.

    General zombie question:

How come all zombies around the same age and body weight? Sometimes we see an obese zombie but not often which seems odd in a world going overweight. But how come no kids or old people? Zombies in wheel chairs, on roller skates? Little girl zombies? Girl scout, little league? Zombies in football gear?

I suppose in a way it makes sense because zombieism is about loosing our individuality and joining the masses of consumption.

Still, a nursery of baby zombies would be a nice touch.

I don't follow the show anymore but in the first season first episode there was a little girl zombie carrying a stuffed animal..that Rick shot.

That being said. The comic is still really entertaining. On the other hand...the tv show is so boring and I like shows that aren't fast paced.

Looks like there will be less violent going forward. Which is kind of funny really.

The show's executive producer Gale Anne Hurd revealed at the 2017 National Association of Television Program Executives conference that the Walking Dead team did make a conscious decision about lowering the level of violence on The Walking Dead following feedback from fans, Deadline reports. After the backlash to the premiere and "feedback on level of violence," "we did tone it down for episodes we were still filming," she said.

"This is not a show that’s torture porn," Hurd added. "Let’s make sure we don’t cross that line."

Is anyone still watching this steaming pile of shit? If you gave up on it already, be glad.
Less gore (unfortunately) but the violence has gone full tilt. Show is nothing but a brainless shoot 'em now... still shamefully trying to cling to its dramatic aspects, which have been long dead since Alexandria (arguably even before that).
Ambient music + extended shots of sullen faces does not = drama. Terrible soap opera at best.

Case in point: the last 5 minutes of this week's mid-season finale leading up to...
ZOMG! Carl got bit!!! *cue the tears*
Seriously though, does anybody even care at this point?

Always sucks to see a once (semi) beloved show jump the shark and continue to limp on... but when things get so bad it's actually painful to watch, best to just walk away.

Nothing makes sense about this show anymore. Season 1 and 2 were good, seasons 3-5 sloped downward and season 6 through the current season downright suck IMO. The writers are atrocious and they should not even let Nicotero near a directing chair. Gimple blows, and this whole theme of Rick and company being the good guys- thus making themselves vulnerable all the time and always self-sacrificing is getting so old. They always look like dipshits.

The cast is so bloated that you literally can't keep track of many groups/characters are in play and sometimes have to really try an remember what the character was doing last because we haven't seen them in weeks. That's why no one could figure out Carl got bit. Seriously kill off more than half of this cast. Less is more. Stop having it always be about a bad group they have to contend with, make it more random with strangers and zombies that can actually kill instead of always falling on top of them with super strength. You know like whoops I didn't see that one and got bit?!

I can't stop watching for all the wrong reasons. Lincoln's overacting is comedy gold by now. That scene when Ezekiel is customarily pompous af and Rick tries to make some weird point by telling that incredibly long-winded and morally very questionable tale about the good king who burrowed a huge rock in the middle of his kingdom's main road, probably destroying hundreds of carriages and whole families (apparently signs weren't a thing back in whatever time this fable takes place), only to eventually bring out the heroism in ONE little merchant girl who would then be rewarded with a sack of gold that her bloodied little hands most likely couldn't carry - did that actually happen, or do I just dream I'm still watching this..?? Either way, amazing.

Shock value always gets old. Always.

The downfall of the show was the greed behind the scenes. When you have a show 10 times more popular than any other show on TV you should spend the money you need to maintain that viewership period. Ripping off the creators and lowballing the actors and using the cheapest extras you can find just doesn't cut it. 10 times the ratings yet your budget remains tiny compared to so many other shows? Yeah that makes sense. Since last season they have lost almost 40% of their viewers and for good reason. Refusing to invest in different settings to film. Keeping the stories as small and localized as possible. Limiting the number of actual zombies per episode to save on special effects costs. It's just a big joke at this point. Insanely good source material to choose from but only using the easiest to film parts of the comics with the least amount of zombies and conflict is a recipe for failure. And now all the show runners talk about is how they are going to kill Rick "at some point" which just deflates the viewership even more. Why give a shit about anything that happens when all they talk about is how they will kill the main guy off? The whole show is about everyone good turning ruthless and then good and then ruthless and then good over and over and over again for years. Fucking pathetic.

It’s the train wreck that I can’t stop watching. I hate that I am in such a love/hate relationship with this show. It’s been going downhill for a while now but yet, I still watch week after week and each week I hate myself more for continuing to watch.

LOST started off great before all the overlapping storylines, plot twists and lame reasoning strangled it to death.

Did they ever get off the island? . . . or did they just realise that they were actually only a half-mile off the Florida coast?
