^^ It's about the same on the XBox Zune Marketplace. I can watch it on the TV and not have to get cable. Win / Win.
Who the hell pays for cable anymore? What I liked about the comic and what the show seems likes it's doing, is that it's SURVIVOR driven. The gimmick of "Fight Zombies in a FILL IN THE BLANK" is not important. What IS is WHO are fighting the zombies. It doesn't even need to be zombies, they're just a tool. It can be any terrible thing with a set of rules that people need to fight through and survive despite the low chances of survival. But zombies are fun. The first Dawn of the Dead will always be great to me because it wasn't so much about the mall but about the people fighting to keep it safe and survive.
Amen brother! On all accounts... What attracts me to any show is characters and character driven scripts. Throw in surviving against incredible odds and you have me. Now I'm really excited for next week. Can you believe this is the first time I ever bought something from iTunes?
AMC is uploading episodes to their site and you can watch it for free on Hulu also. Figures as soon as I buy it. Still as soon as it get even more popular I'm sure they'll pull it. Speaking of.... Last night's episode was spectacular! Having read the comic, the premise was sort of the same but the way they wrote all those characters in and executed the idea was great.
what's bothering me about this show... these people can get whatever they want...why do they all not each have an automatic weapon with a boatload of ammo? maybe at this point, weapons and ammo are getting scarce...
I get the feeling a little more time has passed than we realize... and if places like the military base we saw in the first episode were all overrun, then weapons and ammo probably are getting too hard or dangerous to find. One of the guys in the second episode mentions that they are using ammo they don't have or can't afford.
Yeah with flesh eating zombies everywhere it's hard to move around. Also not many gun stores in cities. If there were ammo/guns they would have been snatched up in the panic before the shit really hit the fan. I really like the tension btw the supporting cast. I notice a lot more characters than in the comic. This bodes well for lots of people dying!
SPOILER ALERT! They find more weapons as the story moves along. They are living in a walled village now with it's own armory. Even little Carl starts packing heat. Weapons play a big part in this society and ultimately, as you can probably imagine, cause even more problems.
it really hasn't wasted a second so far... last night was nice and gory. looking forward to getting to know the suddenly huge cast, although it seems like anyone could drop off at any moment
Awwwwww yeahhhhhh (2nd season official): http://artsbeat.blogs.nytimes.com/2010/ ... nd-season/ So does anyone else here really dig the title sequence music? I love seeing those broken picture frames and hearing that great eerie dramatic music.
Liked the second episode. Man, those zombies are way up there on the Hinzman scale for intelligence. Using rocks to break windows? Much sharper than the ones in the comic.
Yup. I was just thinking last night, "They even did a good job with the title sequence". Loving this show so far.
Out of curiosity Chris what do you think of the use of music or lack there of in the show? I personally love the ominous tone and this is kind of what I expected when I watched THE ROAD. My biggest pet peeve of that movie was the music. It was so overdone and always present. That being said..I really like how this tv show doesn't use music to elevate scenes. It's more of a kind of subtle background.
I also like that part as well and actually didn't really even notice it until you pointed it out. The show as a whole has to work based on the actors ability to convey fear, terror etc etc. That's nice to see for a change rather than "cue dramatic music to let viewer know what's going on". It lets the viewer sort of be in the moment with the actors rather than 3rd party watching. So for those who have read the comic (SPOILER- don't read any further if you don't want to know plot details), do you think the 1st season will end with all that love triangle drama/exodus out of Atlanta and the 2nd season will focus on the road journey? Another thing I'm glad they've done is really not have anyone killed by the zombies yet (well except that horse). Usually in zombie films you can just guess "yeah that guys definitely dying right now" and here the tension of knowing someone somewhere is going to get it, and soon is really a treat for the senses.
last night's was a little more on the character relationships side of things... only a couple zombie kills. it was a lot of well done set up - i'm anticipating another adrenaline rush next episode.
I really like Daryl Dixon. He had some of the best one liners, i.e :"Take that stupid hat and go back to 'On Golden Pond.'", and will be a good asset in a tight spot. Glad they didn't carry on a over the top sappy reunion btw Rick and Lori. (SPOILER coming up so don't read): Kind of feel bad for Shane I hope he doesn't go the way he did in the comic.
kinda sucks that there is only 3 more episodes left for the first season at this rate i am not sure they are even going to make it out of atlanta
SPOILER don't feel bad for him at all. he told lori that rick was dead, then stepped into his shoes? that's pure selfishness. he did go kind of a nasty way in the comic, but you can already sort of see that coming. i think the show could do a really graceful job with it though.
I see now about the weapons thing... it does make sense that the first few weeks or whatever people would snatch up everything. Although he should've started up the tank when he was in it! The instructions are right by the driver's seat, if you ever find yourself in a zombie war. Last episode was much better...
I just read online (not confirmed but disappointing if it is true) that Walking Dead Season 2 might not show up till October 2011?! WTF? Oh and they pushed Breaking Bad Season 4 till Summer 2011 and not Spring like originally planned. AMC you're killing me.....
