Hey Dustin, are those shots of Link from the old nintendo Power? I loved those monthly comic stories... When I was a kid, I made wooden swords, and shields among other weapons, (I was 11) and sell them to other kids in the neighborhood... My absolute favorite set that I made, was Link's sword, and his shield, with the triforce of power emblem on the front. I also made myself a triforce, and had my mom make me a green hat and shirt. I was fighting all sorts of trolls and goblins out in our woods, they were good times. I don't own the Gargamel Mario, mainly because I've always had a hard time buying franchise items, but I have to hand it to them for sticking to the original Mario Bros. aesthetic. My dad would go to a Tractor Supply company for his grass seeds, and for some reason they had the original Mario Bros. arcade game there set up for free play. I was always super stoked to go to a place that could have otherwise been a very boring experience. Another toy company used to have some ridiculous motto of "Death to Nostolgia", but you can't forget where you came from, because that's the shit that molded you into what you are today. Sorry for the Tangent, but hows this: "Zelda, oh yeah +1 DOODZ, that Rulez!!!", or is mockery now passe? For real though Zelda +1
I think they're scans from either the instruction manual or the strategy guide. I remember (and still have) all the issues of the Nintendo Fun Club magazine, the precursor to Nintendo Power. They're fun to pull out and look through every now and then. I've got some more Zelda images saved somewhere, I'll see if I can find them.
Dustin, your photos of the parody Marios are actually what got me to start collecting and join SB. Too awesome. I know I'm derailing too much but since you guys are talking about dream Kiyoke Nintendo sculpts I just had to chime in and say I'm hoping he does either some Mario Land sculpts or some Devil World pieces. I think a Devil with a Tamagon chaser set would be amazing.
One years worth of releases, many more to come! The red in the front is the first factory prototype ...
Here's my Rose Vampire collection...finally got it all set up in the new house! Thankfully there's still room for a few more in there
Man, I've got a couple milk crates full of Nintendo Power from the beginning through about 91-92. I only got them as hand-me-downs from my uncle's subscription. Back then, issues (as well as games) would come with awesome fold out maps or posters. The coolest part was seeing all the kids in the ads/articles, dressed like the epitome of cool kids in the 80's and in a room exploding with Nintendo EVERYTHING - and the photos of real people costumed as game characters. I'll never forget the cover for issue #2 featuring Simon's Quest, when I saw that Meat Bun did a shirt with the image I had to buy it. And you're lucky that feed store had a videogame, all I had to do at the feed stores as a kid was think the baby chicks would make an awesome pet, or see how high I could climb atop the pallets of feed sacks. Btw dustin, that display looks awesome, grouped together with those smaller Nintendo pieces reminds me of a keshigomu collection.
