Jim C. Rules! He's a great guy and was always a font of kaiju info back in the day. Roger, do you know what he's doing these days? At the time Club Daikaiju closed down, I thought Jim was going to pursue a music career. I also remember that he had other M1 collaborations planned - w hole series of monster sculpts based on American sci fi movies from the 50's - like Angry Red Planet, the Giant Gila Monster, etc.. Oh, what might have been.
Yep, Jim's doing the music thing these days: http://momosdanceparty.com/ Giant Gila Monster, eh? That would be a cool one, and no pesky license!
Ill try to post a shot of the flesh colored Gorgo's I have which Jim had raffled off at one of the AFFE shows later this week.
Here's a couple more of the Ratbats. AFFE 3 painted beige lottery version, and the green glow Neighborhood stores exclusive:
I was there too, and although I wasn't lucky enough to win one of those I got it for a reasonable price a few months later. I'm a big fan of the Club Daikaiju M1's. I've got pretty much all the ones I'd want, except for the SuperFest beige-painted Ratbat and the reverse Reptilicus (oh, and the glow Gorgo that never happened - bummer). The green glow Ratbat is my favorite - did you know that you can tell the difference between the ones painted by Yuji for Neighborhood stores and the ones painted by Jim C for US fans? Yuji used an airbrush to paint the tongues. I only discovered this recently when I got one off YJA.
They were released a few years ago, so the occasional one pops up on eBay. Unless you can pry them from Roger's dead, cold hands.
Yup, I think that was Jim's idea - that he would do sculpts through M1 of monsters that were in the public domain - or the licenses were easy to get for one reason or another - like Reptilicus, the Angry Red Planet Rat Bat Spider - but this was suppose to be just the beginning before Club D. shut down. Now we'll never know
There's a neat recap of 2002 on Clubtokyo....you'll probably need to cut and paste the url... http://www.clubtokyo.org/articles/2002YiR.php?catID=Art
I remember Jim talking about doing the Giant Amoeba (also from Angry Red Planet). I was never sure how that would work out, but I guess I'm not the only one who heard that idea. Here's a site that talks about it (briefly): http://www.sixsite.com/m1/news.html
I have a rare Reptilicus that Yuji painted the eyes red and round instead of snake like. I like the little booklet with the lyrics to "Tivolli nights" too! Love Sid Pink flicks, great figs.
just want to jump on the jim c appreciation bandwagon . one of the nicest guys you could ever meet . does anyone remember the ( i think ) 5 limited reptilicus that could only be won if you pre ordered the glow batrat at jims show ? i did win one of those but my friend was a huge M1 collector and had allways helped me out in the past so i gave it to him . it might be up on clubtokyo .
Here's a quick look at the Rat Bat Spider menagerie in the KaijuZoo collection (not shown is the HTF unpainted flesh color).
Check it out, there's a new Rat Bat Spider coming from M1GO: http://www.m1go.com/cgi-bin/index.cgi/e ... 070630.htm I'm told it's a limited edition item for Super Fest 43 which will also be sold on July 1 at the Tokyo Science Museum. 9,000 yen for a painted version, 7,000 yen for an unpainted version. I don't have complete release details on it, but if you want one, contact your regular dealer ASAP. It also notes that the Japanese title for Angry Red Planet was "Planet of the Giant Amoeba."
who is my regular dealer!?!?! if anyone has a line on one of these let me know, i need to own one or i may die.
I hope to get a few in stock but won't know how many until later in the week. This SF43 release was limited to 50 painted Rat Bats with some unpainted. Here is another pic from Datadub's shots in the SuperFest thread:
