strange or rare yahoo auctions post here (after theyre over)

This auction is going back a while now, but I wanted to document it before it disappears into the ether. I know at least Jonathan and Paul would appreciate the difficulty in hunting down Condorman stuff. A Masudaya talker (31cm) and in good shape too. According to the description his voicebox still works, though the seller seemed to think it might have been a little quick at some point (if I understood the explanation right). A couple very minor small tears along the fringing of his cape, but my word, a fantastic toy. A real cornerpiece of any vintage shelf, and only the missile-firer is this guy's competition I think.

 

Yeah, I was going back and forth on it for a while, but ended up waiting a bit too long. Wish there would have been some better photos for the listing. But in any case, it is what reminded me of this great talker. Alas, the Condorman hunt will have to continue for me.

 

Yeah, no major worries Johnny, that's alright. This is a small hobby when it comes down to it, and it is inevitable that every now and then we are going to come up against each other. Usually in these situations we tend to communicate behind the scenes even, to work out a fair scheme of giving each other a shot, but of course one can't account for everyone's 'hunting' list all the time. It's harder for shop items, but is also important for auctions, to avoid bidding each other up in a lot of cases. I am still sad I was too slow of course, but the pain in missing out on this fella is (somewhat! ) lessened in knowing he will be finding a new home with someone on here.

Two really interesting KR lots you dug up, Scott. The Amazon bike is a really great toy, and I think it's quite funny that it even has 'branded' decals, even if it does take you out of the fantasy a little. So I am guessing the minis are something similar to the transition period from Marusan to Bullmark, where Bandai had the acquired the license and was re-issuing some of the old toys from modified (new stamp) Popy molds? I guess I have never paid close enough attention to these little nuances, as they're easy to miss unless you are an easy Japanese reader, though I assume it is also quite rare. Like you said, really nice colours on this duo; and I am guessing the end price speaks to their special nature.

 

Nice one. Even if I didn't have the coin for that auction, it is a great piece, that clearly someone put a lot of work into. I confess that I always had the idea of putting one (or a pair) of these guys out in the garden somewhere - once I have one of course - albeit in the 'statue' form. Not sure I would spend anything like that on something that would get weathered and such, but the idea of having a large guardian out there is definitely appealing.
