I like my version too. But I also have a thing for clear sculpts and (not TOO much so) glittery ones. Like to put them on a shelf in front of the window and let the light through.
Noooooooo! Somebody bought the Rabbit X that I have been stalking, but couldn't afford on YJA. Was hoping it would last just a bit longer.
Not a tinted window.....but it does have a sheer over it, so only a small amount of light comes though - no actual bright sunshine, just a muted wash of light for a few hours a day. I, too, worry about color fading. But clears just cry out for a little light to show off properly.
So flashback to SF 58 in winter 2012 when SHB debuted the Jungle Kings. I wanted one pretty badly, and was watching at least 5-6 YJA auctions that popped up soon after the event knowing they would be going for a mint. I saved the auction pics (and later threw them out sadly) knowing full well the hype machine had taken over and it was a lost cause as I was unwilling to pay the prices they were commanding. Hype came and went as it usually does in this hobby, and I forgot I even wanted a Jungle King (I was never smitten with anything else by SHB really besides the Taiwan Toy Space Sasquatch) Flash forward to last week. Bored, I happened upon a Ray Harryhausen documentary on Netflix and of course one of the first things they show was that he did the original King Kong- which the Jungle King sculpt is based off of! My mind suddenly went into overdrive thinking: "WTF! I remember I wanted a Jungle King but couldn't afford one!" SHB hype has died down by now surely. I wonder if any Jungle Kings are around? Especially that black/brown one!" Well no way I was depositing money to start the YJA money drain machine, so I just happened to take one of my saved searches onto Mandarake and sure enough the exact Jungle King I wanted 2 years ago loose for 8000 yen. Less than retail! With fate throwing me so many signs I didn't debate long. Anyhow the short of it is I now own the exact Jungle King I could not afford years ago, moral of the story: "patience pays off" He's actually a bit darker than the pics show. Just the silverish highlights stand out more in the lighting than the black paint. Now if I can only find a Pilot Ace/ Beagle Ymir for a decent price.
Nice score Lixx. I was into these when they were hyped and love them just as much now, the King that you have and the Astro Kong being my favorites. I actually think they have a bit more personality than the HS standard Gorilla Jus, and the sculpt size is surprisingly large in hand. The detail on the head sculpts is exceptional. Still on the lookout for many of the earlier releases myself.
Agreed. At first glance it appears to be a pretty crude sculpt, but the fangs/ red mouth along with the menacing deep set yellow eyes really bring it to life. It's nice to know where the inspiration came from also. I like it much more than the Gorilla Ju and you don't kill yourself financially (at least these days) trying to get one.
I think if shb kept their releases like how hxs does his, the series may have been as loved. The pace during the early days was simply too fast, too furious. Perhaps this is what shb planned, to filter the hype chasers, opportunists from those who really like their figures and not their relative value.
Agree, but SHB is backed by the massive Marmit (their parent company) so making in roads into the booming and profitable indie sofubi market (more so than the standard Marmit fare) via this line, well they probably just got a little over zealous. The concept was really good though. Using old movie sci-fi creatures. I think collectors just felt inundated with releases. Still everyone surely could pick out a few they liked- and now for pretty affordable prices! That's why I stay away from HxS- too many opportunists and hype. I also think it's strange some of the same people keep winning, but I haven't even entered since the Grey Mecha Ju MG2 nod version years ago so what do I know? I just collect toys I love and don't kill me financially (well except vintage- vintage is worth springing for occasionally).
I think these guys belong here? My Rotten-X collection. A triple collaboration from SHB, Rampage Toys, and The Disarticulators! #1 of 1 green vinyl and #2 of 3 red vinyl hand painted by Jon of Rampage Toys 1 of 5 Man-E-Toys exclusive milky/red glitter vinyl also painted by Jon from Rampage
Thanks dude, Jon is one of my favorite artists these days. The green was a personal commission and he totally went nuts with it!
Nice collection! The milky white one is killer, in particular. Those Toycon UK exclusives from the previous page look good too. The Slenderman with the clear-fading arms is sweet.
