Looks like lots of bands are planning their tours! I am pumped for the following upcoming shows: Night Marchers with Dan Sartain & Mrs. Magician Ghost with Ides of Gemini Man or Astroman? with Jacuzzi Boys & Dry Feet! I'm super excited to see Ghost, who I missed on the last East coast shows. Who are you excited to see!?
One bummer is that the same night as that Night Marchers show, The Queers & Teenage Bottlerocket are playing at another place in town. You don't know how tempted I am to try to swing both!
Other than They Might Be Giants a bit later in the month, there is absolutely nothing coming to my town any time soon that I'm excited for. Burlington bookings have really gone downhill, of late. I gotta start looking at the Montreal calendars more closely...
Ghost, Ghost, Ghost! Red Fang tonight - getting ready to leave. Last show before they go back into the studio. Would be excited about Boris if I could go.
I've seen TMBG a few times over the years, always an amazing show. The first time I saw them they had these super tall trigger-puppets on poles that they "sang" Put Your Hand Inside The Puppet Head through. Then the next time I saw them they performed Fingertips in its entirety, in order!
was set to go see man or astroman but i'm going to portland that same day!!! total bummer i've missed them every time they've come. horrible.
Just saw The XX play for a very enthusiastic Tucson crowd. Looking forward to Yo La Tengo in a few months
I just saw The Wedding Present on both Saturday and Sunday night at The Bottom of the Hill. I hadn't seen them in over 10 years and it's like I was at the show 10 years ago. The small venue is great for someone like David Gedge or anyone who likes to chat a bit with the audience. The best part, before they take the stage, David is at the merch table. He has someone helping sell the stuff so he doesn't have to be there, but he is till he has to go on stage. When they're done, he goes right back behind the merch table. At first I was just going to go on one night. I'm so glad I went both nights, especially when it was an almost totally different set each night.
thats great- i saw wedding present last summer here in spain and they played seamonsters in its entirety
i feel like the queers and tbr tour pretty often though? and i think they have toured together in the last year even, but maybe i'm just making that up. i'm really stoked for that man or astroman show, i might try and see if i can catch night marchers somehow/somewhere.. night birds, tenement, and give is coming up soon, but i haven't kept my eye on show listings lately so i have no clue what's coming up..
Ugh, I'm getting less and less excited for Ghost. They're playing at the Wonder Ballroom here in Portland. I went there for the first time last week to see Graveyard. The sound was terrible, and so loud that my hearing was screwed up for about 24 hours. I went again last night to see Red Fang and the sound was so crappy I left after 5 or 6 songs. Fuck the Wonder Ballroom.
headed to the wonder ballroom in a few months for black angels. likely gonna be up front so not much to worry about. @ missy thanks for the tip on the man or astro-man tour. they're at doug fir in my town. i am ready.
in case that doesn't work, i just made the album public. https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.256189391071802.70056.100000422294487&type=3
This time was George Best on Saturday and Hit Parade on Sunday. I bought their complete Peel Sessions 6 CD pack for $60. They tossed in a free CD (Live at WVFS - comp of many bands) a small badge, and David signed the box for the Peel Sessions. I wish I had more money. I would have bought a Seamonsters shirt.
100% psyched! They're playing at Bimbo's here in SF, which is a well-preserved lounge era Rat Pack sorta place, perfect for them. Tickets only $18, which is pretty amazing in this day and age of overpriced reunion gigs.
Mostly pumped about Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds in April. Also have tickets for Patti Smith in a couple of weeks. Crystal Castles & Mudhoney soon after. Man or Astroman is coming to the local club circuit soon - never seen them live, but previous posts may change my mind.
We are taking a road trip to Newport, KY to see the Queers and TBR in March...stoked! EDIT: Here is some video that I took when Man or Astro-man? played in Louisville (10/12/11)... http://kxfxhxc.squarespace.com/music/2011/10/14/man-or-astro-man-headliners-1012.html
