^There's a line for this guy down the street and around the corner if I ever sell it. Bwana got a matching puppy killer, and here's a better top down shot of the water pattern. Forgot to mention it is gid too!!!
^ Nice pic Jeff but you really didn't have to go out of your way to make me feel worse about not having scored one, did you And David awesome grab once again on that water pattern camo killer… and LOVE LOVE LOVE the matching puppy killer! Some total dick helped me score this while I waited impatiently in line to get in
I for one am excited that they're releasing some large scale versions of the classic Starroid line (the Galaxy Commanders pictured below @ SDCC), although as a collector of the originals, I can't imagine how much the already crazy prices of the originals will increase. Oh well, that practice isn't anything new. Ha, I just need to dive in & get what I don't have now. But yeah, I look forward to seeing painted up versions of the Galaxy Commanders. Thanks for the photo bigluelok.
I'm actually really excited for the Galaxy Commanders, too. I knew next to nothing about them(still really don't), other than they're bootlegs of Chinese bootlegs and a few tidbits that Luke explained to me, which I promptly forgot. Here's a photo I took from SDCC with the heads, though they're out of focus to the figures in the background. Sorry!
Wow I can't believe this is the first coverage I've seen for these coming out of SDCC.. they look fucking awesome!
Thanks for posting this pic, Robert. This link sums up they're history for ya (ha, good luck on trying to remember it all though) : http://www.toymania.com/334archives/tomland/ Note: be sure to click on the individual names in the menu on the left for specific item history breakdown. Yeah, they're a tricky bunch to collect. I say Starroid (or "Starroid Raiders" to be more precise) because they were the first of the bunch. What ties them all together is the company - Tomland. Those of you who are fans of the classic Mego dolls should most definitely check out Tomland's "Star Raiders" (Starroid Raiders predecessor actually) too. http://www.plaidstallions.com/tomland/ ... We should probably just start a new "Galaxy Commanders" topic, huh?
Oh, awesome! Thank you for the link, Velvet! I definitely loved the original little figures on display. Rinsed me of old Jenner Star Wars figures, or G.I. Joe. Character, loose and carded variation numbers sound like a nightmare for collectors!
I know! Thank goodness I'm just after 1 of each character from any of the lines. Loose & w'o weapons is fine for me too, as long as they're in good condition w' a "like new" looking chest sticker. It's just too insane to be a purist here. Ha, I tried. You mentioned they remind you of Star Wars, which the body style of the smaller figures (Starroid Raiders, etc.) is most certainly bootlegged. They're success is attributed to Star Wars' too. Going back to the Star Raiders line - except for the heads that were pulled from other projects & sources, and although there's no way to really know, some of them sure look Star Wars "inspired". I hate to think like that, as if Star Wars was the only of it's kind across all media platforms, but in this case, some just look waaay to obviously like the Star Wars character of similar comparison, albeit watered-down (which is a classic bootleg thing to do).
So i had no idea about this forum until a few days ago. Im at the con and hall h (yes sleeping outside like an uber nerd) every year and I just realized Brian owns the shop on haight. I was walking the floor this year and randomly bought a skull leader shirt and it was from this store! Small world. Glad to be here peeps.
