I don't have this in hand yet, but I've won the auction already. It appears to be soft vinyl with possibly a light up mouth and a light up uni-nipple. I"m guessing it's definitely a bootleg of something or an og made in a KO factory. The header really sold me on it: Anyone ever seen one before? Have more of the series?
There is at least a Bemlar looking one out there too, I know that exists cause I missed it! I think there is also one other but not sure, I cant quite remember what the shop owner told me. The light up nipples rule and the header card, CRAZY!!!!!!!!!!
I think there are 4 different figures of these guys. I have seen them on eBay. I think they are from South America...ask the seller if he has more. They are definately bootleg.
Jim posted about these elsewhere a while back. See here: http://toyboxdx.com/phorum/read.php?4,1 ... msg-199296
My friend bought one of those in like 1984 at a store called HEAVEN in Pittsburgh...they sold punk shirts and odd Japanese toys along with a bunch of 80's new wavey stuff. I don't remember if it was bagged or not.
Wow thanks for all of the info guys. @ baikin: It's a shame you missed it I'll keep my eyes open for another. @Chad Hensley: I'm pretty sure these are Taiwan/China. I asked but no luck. @Kingboy D: Great link of info there. Shit now I need to track down the rest of these?? It's strange that those all seem to have little rubber band cards and not bags and headers plus the ones he's showing there also have a strange little American Eagle themed bird thing flying overhead as well. @ Paulkaiju: Ah Paul that thing is action packed. I can't wait until mine gets here. @ Greasebat: I know Heaven (grew up in Hbg then lived in Philly for a long time). I've never been there but that store was pretty legendary.
Just a quick question about Philly...back in the 80's there was a small store that sold anime and kaiju stuff...right off of South street. Is it still around? What was it called? We used to go there and stay with Circle Of Shit.
There's a store called Jinxed that's right off South Street on 4th. If that's the one you're talking about it's still there.
I'm pretty sure you mean Quakerhead Collectibles. Which was originally located out in Quakertown, then moved over by U of Penn then onto South Street. That shop closed up in roughly 2004. From my understanding. The owner is still doing cons mostly now out of Florida.
Yep- Quakerhead. They closed the shop on South St. in 2004, but they moved to a weird shop in the Philly burbs for less than a year after that. Tried to go the Japanese snack foods route and still carried a few toys, but the Pocky and crab chips weren't enough to keep them open for long. It wasn't the best store, but I remember buying some of my first Japanese toys there. Jinxed is a sad replacement.
Thanks guys. I remember it was pretty small, a short walk from "Zipperhead" ... I believe I bought a Bioman robot there with 5 rubber ranger figures, a tube of Ultraman eraser style monsters...and some bigger rubber monsters that came with a piece of candy. My old band played at a place called Abe's Steak House a couple times.
I love the header card art. SO vintage!!! I'm not sure if the monsters are fighting, or having a beach party.
so... I go home and my dad has pulled all my boxes out of the attic.. lo and behold, I did have one of these light up triceratops lookin guys myself. Pretty sweet, although his arm was broke. I also have a shitload of Godaiken boxes and other Ultraman/ Kamen Rider boxes from the 80's. I saved everything!
Unfortunately I sold most all of the Godaikens to pay off some medical bills...boo. I had bought them as an adult, so they were all mint.
Whosoever sniped me at the last minute on that duo, I salute thee, good sir/madam, and bow to your skills, which have evidently paid the bills. (Even my near all-night endeavor to keep a watchful eye out proved unsuccessful, alas!) But I also curse you with every last breath for stealing away from me the fruits of a many years long search for these amazing pachi weirdos. May you continue to enjoy the majesty of your new terrible twosome for many good years to come. Science Space Monsters FTW.
