... ... ... ... ... ... all that's left to add from 2012 are a couple more micro angelbirds, which means i'll have to start up on the first customs of 2013! =p (and the stevens are all repaints. some were as simple as dotting the eyes, while others were completely stripped and redone...) more shots in the flickr set.
... ... ... ... 2013 is off and running, and i'm doing a lot more actual brush work lately... i'll find a balance between airbrush and paintbrush eventually. more shots in the flickr set.
I've not commented on your "Ruined Toys" customs, but I got to tell you that your doing something special here. I like that your giving them an Americanized touch, instead of sticking with the traditional "simple, spray" Japanese style. It reminds me of Bwana Spoons, if Bwana, kept everything super clean. Great work, I look forward to seeing more... I'm working on developing a personal style, without copying the artist's that are already out there, but it's so hard, because there are a lot of guys already doing great things. This gives me hope, that there are ways of painting these awesome toys, that hasn't already been done to death.
... i'll admit the guts were pretty intimidating when it came to putting them back in once they were painted, but i'm REALLY happy with how they turned out! more shots in the flickr set.
... blake's hobo (and his mitari-chan) are headed to their new home... and in case anyone is interested, i'm completely open to commissions. if you have the toy, i'll paint it for right around the cost of paint and shipping... i'm just having a lot of fun painting right now! more hobo shots in the flickr set.
have you painted miniatures or game figures in the past? the hobo's paint job especially reminds me of the look of layers of washes i've seen on, say, warhammer miniatures. or was that dustin's previous life? it's great to see you having so much fun with these! are they what you'll be presenting at c2e2?
never did the miniatures growing up... mostly i worked on model planes and cars, sometimes a star wars ship. i didn't have an airbrush, either. it was all done with those crappy little plastic handle brushes. then i got a bit older and moved to gesso board and canvas, where i started becoming bit of a brush whore. (collecting habits run deep, i guess. =p) and yeah, this is great fun. especially the set up i have now... everything is done with liquid acrylic and gouache, so i can do it all in my office and don't need a full-on respirator. i think i've got 30+ pieces ready for c2e2 right now, and i've got a shelf full of fodder to work through before then.
oh, just some dumb old booth, watching it while the guy running it goes to buy old "g.i. joe" back issues...
... ... ... ... got on a roll this week, still have three more customs to post once i can get some lightbox shots taken. mmm... deathras!
... ... ... ... ... ... a lot of deathra inspiration this weekend... (as well as a good excuse to stay inside! it's freaking cold out there!!) and yeah, bert... kind of got that same feeling as well. i think it's the white around the eyes that really builds that connection, though i'm not saying it's necessarily a bad thing. =p as always, more shots in my flickr set.
My daughter was terrified of Cookie monster when she was real little, and at 9 still hates him. She found the fact that he chewed cookies so frantically without being able to swallow them really unnatural and disturbing.
... ... ... ... ... ... this was a total art therapy weekend... just what i needed after a particularly soul-crushing week at the office. and for a bonus: i won $100 from my office super bowl square! hot damn!! as always, more shots in my flickr set.
... ... ... ... ... ... wanted to have more done this weekend, but there was just too much going on. luckily, the angelbirds are really easy... =p as always, more shots in my flickr set.
... ... ... these were last week's batch... didn't get around to snapping pics until this weekend, though. as always, more shots in my flickr set.
... ... ... ... and these were this weekend's batch of fun! (except the two daves... they were actually part of last weekend's set, but the didn't get clear coats until this weekend...) i felt like doing yellow eyes this time around, for some reason. and again, more shots in my flickr set.
^ i find the yellow eye on the crouching zag better suited, actually, so that's your gut lending you proper creative direction!
