Hey everyone, So I have floated this idea around with a few people on board, but I'd like to maybe gauge general interest here in people who would like to support a Mook put together by members of the board. I know, I am old fashioned, but I still like reading (and re-reading) paper reference books, even if it is just for enjoying the vintage toy pr0n photos. I am sure many of us miss the Super7 magazine, and Brian and co. did a fantastic job with that, for which we should always be grateful. Well, my idea would be to do something similar, but with a focus on vintage stuff. We could have contributions from some of our heavy-hitting vintage collectors on here (particularly if we could coax some more out of the shadows), and just have random content sharing information on old toys, stuff we love, great stories, why we got into collecting - basically some of the nuggets of gold which make this forum such a 'Raiders' treasure trove to dig through, but expanded and easy to access. {And yeah, we could of course have this all available electronically for those of us who have entered the 21st century.} Would love some feedback here. I know nothing about publishing, so people out there with connections/experience, or anyone from Super7 who wants to help support would be incredible. Even if we just do one or two issues over the next 5 years, I think it would be great. There is always a wealth of information on vintage toys out there, but so much of it is sadly limited to Japanese language publications. This is a chance to open it up to more of us, and really, just share our love for great toys (and YES, robuts will be included! *you know who I am looking at). I'd imagine some type of crowd-funding model - internally - at least to get this started. With all the junk we waste money on these days, I would be so happy to pool resources into something concrete and enjoyable. Anyways, rant, rant, rant.... Once I get talking about things I am passionate about, I know I can go on and on. Throw some thoughts out here, poo-poo the idea as you see fit, offer ideas for funding, or just flatten this idea dead like a dropped room-clearing after-Christmas fart if that is your thing. Thanks for reading, and hopefully even if this goes nowhere (yes, those of us who have been around all know the many other reference markers) maybe the idea will lay the seed for something interesting with someone else out there.
You betcha! Please count me in on the support part. I would love to see a Vintage Mook! Articles contributed by our serious vintage gurus, with photo examples and documentation from their collections would be very educational, and also a great way to preserve info (especially when images vanish with time on these forums).
One of the reasons that I love this board is the vintage section, specially find out more about the history and so own so I am down in supporting this idea
I'm definitely in, I think it's a great idea Steve, I had a similar idea some time ago but with the bootleg figures; make a type of catalog with all the variants and explanations of some of the connoisseurs of the theme of this board. My dream has always been to interview someone who has worked in any of the workshops where the bootleg was made in the 70's, they are people who have so much information that they could clear our doubts about so many variants. If I can contribute anything with the little that I know, it would be great to be able to contribute something with this project.
