Very very sad to read this post and this seems the worst year for 'our people' to be passing on but who better than she to depart with Vampira, Dave Stevens & Forrest J Ackerman.
SHe is truly an icon, yet it surprised me to see that her death was actually covered on the ABC evening news. I thought her underground/kinky past might preclude her from making the 'mainstream' headlines.
I think some posting of your favoite bettie pics and poses might be in order (NSFW pics excluded) post yours.
Oh cmon, she's not THAT underground now, you can buy crap with her all over it at any mall in the US, even NASHVILLE! Do half the people buying that crap know much about her, probably not, but still. It's sad when anyone passes, but she lived a full life it seems so you gotta be happy for her for that.
Dunno, sounds to me like she lived with a lot of conflict in her life and didn't really make much money off of what she was famous for. I remember seeing those postcards of her in the jungle get-up when I was young, though. Powerful experience.
Yeah, sounds like her life really sucked. Supposedly molested by her father as a child, 3 divorces, battled mental illness and poverty, lived as a recluse and never profited from her fame until relatively recently. At least in recent years she learned how influential and much loved she was. Hopefully that gave her some comfort in the end.
My comment was more "At least she didn't die at a young age and live a short life the way many pulp/pop icons tend to and go in a way which included drugs/alcohol" not really commentary on the events in her life so much.
even some of us gays looked to you as an icon, i know i did at least....RIP to the best pin up model ever
