Not sure if people in other parts of the country are getting exposure to this, maybe it's just my town in particular, but there's a Christian broadcaster named Harold Camping who is saying that we are now in the End Times, and that the Rapture (as foretold in the Book of Revelations) is going to happen on May 21. Never mind that this crackpot already predicted the end of the world back in the 90s and later said that his math was wrong, but apparently his radio station is starting to affect my neighbors. Last week at the train station we had two guys on the opposite platform yelling Scripture at us, and then there's this guy: http://www.nj.com/news/index.ssf/2011/0 ... nizes.html Anyone been hearing/seeing stuff like this first hand where you live?
I remember flipping channels a few years back & running into Pat Robertson apologizing that the world had not come to an end. Gimme that old time religion.
http://www.youvebeenleftbehind.com/ http://www.raptureletters.com/ and this one is funny... for a different reason. http://postrapturepost.com/
Earlier this week, someone at my job told me that he was taking all of his vacation next month and that after that he probably won't be back. So, I was thinking, maybe he's starting a business and then quitting, or something, so I asked what he has lined up. He says, "Well, since you asked..." and hands me a pamphlet explaining Judgement Day. So, apparently, he expects to be "raptured" away and not have to come back to work again. SERIOUSLY?!?
9/11, recession, and Chris Christie. Come back to Morristown, we have Tea Parties every other day here now, hosted by three separate organizations.
Seems like I've been hearing murmurs of raptures wherever I go for the last decade, maybe longer. Here was a good clip that worked up a frenzy recently, supposedly one of the horsemen appeared in Egypt, Is it an etherical horseman or a reflection, you decide. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gWQKOj9Sxkg&feature=fvwrel, go to 1:17
agreed. i am a christian myself, and find these "activists" kind of funny. these never ending streams of predictions are always laced with "save yourself before it is too late!" taglines. personally, deciding to change your life/views because your about to be screwed kind of defeats the purpose, right? isn't it supposed to be about following the word of God because you believe that is the right thing to do? not out of some self-saving agenda?
We have a billboard just like this one across the highway from our house. I always wonder what the sales guy must be thinking when he sells ad space for stuff like this. Not to mention the guys who paste up the sign. Why do they think they will still be around between 7:30 and 9PM that day?? Isn't there a chance they'll all have been raptured and they will just be leaving people with dead air?
A book of fiction re-written and translated thousands of times by people to cover their own agendas guarantees something that will happen in real life? Wow...that must be some book I wonder what kind of info this place has about evolution sad. once in a while i really dislike living in MA. The times when I see things like that billboard I am happy to not have to deal with stuff like that.
I live in a (mostly) Musilm/Hindu/Jewish are of the city (like block per block it's 1, the other, then the other!) so I aint seen crap. I did know about it though because I love this stuff. The way I see it is if they're not hurting anyone ("they" being any group of people), I don't care. I know, I know "dude it can lead to people being hurt!" but so can a lot of shit that has nothing to do with religion, this isn't "Minority Report" so we can't get all buckwild about that "what if" crap. To me it's a free show! I'm actually leaving for NYC the 21st, so if it happens I hope the pilot's not "pure" cause that'd suck!
All I see is another bigoted, ignorant group of hatemongers masquerading as christians (whatever that means these days) They're another organization cherrypicking issues and trying to find scripture that backs up their moronic ideals and trying to gather more wackos to follow them around and make money off of. I made the mistake of going to that website. Clearly, for anyone who knows me, I'll be on the first jesus hateship out of here based on their website. But then again as you mentioned in your post Jeff, I imagine that most of your neighborhood would get wiped out first. Catholics, Jewish folks, Muslims..if you're not drinking the born again wacko juice, you're not "accepted" by Jeebus and God. But technically god is supposed to mean love to most Christians. but in this instance....
Don't understand why folks are always trying to predict the end of the world, I would ask them: Do you know when is the end of YOUR world, ie, when are YOU are gonna keel over and die?
Oh, not EVERYONE get's raptured...those who don't get to feel the real pain! I have a feeling if there ever is a rapture, we won't even know it...because the tiny handful of people who'd make the cut ain't the ones making noise like his. Absurd.
