Sad news that Andy Weatherall has died at the age of 56, of a pulmonary embolism. Weatherall was a freelance music journalist, DJ, Remixer and Producer. His most famous work was most probably on Primal Scream's 'Screamadelica' and his electronic music projects 'The Sabres of Paradise' and 'Two Lone Swordsmen'. He also did some stand-out remixes including 'World in Motion' by New Order, 'Hallelujah' by the Happy Mondays and 'Loaded' by Primal Scream.

I was lucky to see Primal Scream in Belfast on the Screamadelica tour. Andy was supporting with a DJ set. It is one of the best gigs i ever attended, and certainly one of the best albums of that era. He was known for his wry sense of humour, and generally being a top geezer.

    R.I.P Andy.

Really sad news. Legend gets thrown around a lot but this man was indeed it. His productions were always sound and he was one of the greatest djs to ever live IMO. I’ve listened to his fabric mix hundreds of times and it still sounds great as it did when it came out. The music world lost a great one today

I remember dancing to 'Loaded' in the Bierkeller when I was still a metal head with a bullet belt and long hair ... I didn't know anything about the tune but I remember both me and my girlfriend loving it.

Andy was probably the first DJ playing house and electronica I ever saw live, my first confusing taste of rave culture. I was there to see a rock band, but who the fuck is this dude spinning records?! - Oh, its Andy, and he's blowing my fucking mind.

Soon after him, it was The Orb who fully opened the door to electronica and dance music for me. When I got back to England I met some ravers who loved Belgian techno, and I never looked back ...
