    Question for any Swedish collectors
So, what is the deal with ordering from Japan, is it even feasible? Do you really get hit with a 25% surcharge on any import, or is it just when they decide to hold something for inspection? Really trying to figure this out. I've lived in a few places where duty and customs charges induce a whole lot of cringing and wallet damage, but to be honest this seems really like it might put a big Nordic axe through any future toy buying. I even had ordered something super cheap as a 'trial' but despite the fact that the actual assessed tax was only 4 Kr, the surcharge on it to Post Nord was 100 Kr, so those extra fees actually now ended up costing me more than the item was even valued at (kaiju zine). :( I still paid of course, better than buying expensive overhyped toys, and what choice do you have at that stage [other than refusing and losing the original payment and also relinquishing the item]. But no doubt this is a major factor now in looking at anything going forward. Pretty bum deal all around, so anyways, would love to hear from any locals if you had any advice, stories of experience, etc. Would really appreciate it. Or you know, also feel free to vent away, too, with your own horror stories.

I take it that you have fled our sceptred Isle and ended up in the land of the mighty meatball?

I ship to a Swedish collector who always requests that the packages be marked down to avoid the import duty/tax, so it sounds pretty similar to the UK.

I would be more concerned (and also interested in your experience from 13.12.24 when the regulations snuck into effect) regarding the recent EU legislation regarding GPSR (General Product Safety Regulations), which seems to effectively restrict all marketing/selling/importing and even gifting almost anything directly into Europe (and NI) without jumping through a bunch of hoops and having all products shipped via a registered in-country third-party (of which there doesn't seem to be any) to receive certification and take responsibility that the product is compliant.

Virtually all SME/independents/artisans/retailers I know are concerned with it's feasibility and have put a hold on trading with Europe/NI until the shitshow pans out. This isn't just 'Brexit Revenge' on the UK, but appears to be global and relates to ALL products being shipped in from ANYWHERE!

Here's hoping it's as unfeasible to put into effect as it sounds!

Thanks Andy. Yes, uprooted once more, I am afraid it is true. The work/income/housing situation became unsustainable, so I have indeed had to depart. It was all fairly hectic and rushed, and I am still handling the fallout. And more than that I owe a lot of overdue apologies to the UK 'brainers I never got to connect with. I've just been here a week now, but I had not noted that governmental policy change. I will definitely keep you in the loop as to/if I note anything particular as a consequence of the new regulations.
