Recently there's been a spate of people posting links and photos for auctions that are still active. Many of the people doing this also are "just curious" to find out more about a toy or its history. While that is all fine and good, we all like to see new/interesting/rare toys. But by posting a photo or a link of to an auction that another member might be the high bidder on basically alerts the rest of the toy hounds "Hey that rare RxH Chaos is on Yahoo Japan or Ebay for $20 bucks!". I think that since there are lots of new members here and this isn't posted anywhere please refrain from doing so. Its no problem if you post the pictures and ask questions after the auction ends but doing so before the auction is over is a no no.
Shouldn't this be a decission for the moderator of the forum? Also while we are at it, let's have the moderator ban members from posting a heads up when a limited figure is up on any website since that ruins the chance of any member lucky enough to find it on there own - that should also be a no no Isn't the point of this board to update the members and ask questions? and what good is it to post a picture of a item after the auction if you may be interested in buying said item but aren't sure if it's legit?
I can't tell if you actually mean this or not, but I actually do find this practice very annoying. Let those who hunt have the hunt! If you see something rare, or at a crazy low price, buy it, or discreetly let someone who's looking for it know about it in a PM or e-mail or something. Mis dos centavos.
Quoting from 2006 That counts for pics too if you're posting a shitty phonecam pic of a say... a mislisted hand painted bemon or rare RxH piece thats obviously not from the company everyone knows to hit ebay or yja and it blows up the price and the deep pocketed flippers usually win. Its not a new occurrance here but there's been a wave of new members most who are learning the ropes. Since posting pics of live auctions is not an "official" rule (posting links IS an official rule though) I thought I'd make a new post to push it to top of the FAQs.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who finds this to be a wee bit paranoid.. Autopsy's logic is sound. If you're going to ban discussions of live auctions because you're afraid the wrong person might win it, then you've also got to make a rule about not posting links to sales at stores..and not even just sales, IMHO, but any store selling at retail. WOuldn't that also alert the 'flippers' where to grab up merchandise. IN FAct, doesn't the existence of message boards with the names "Real x Head' and 'Secret Base' and "Gargamel" etc. tell the flippers what they should be searching for on ebay? Are we sure we want to makes things so easy for them? Better make another rule about that while we're at it..
If anyone sees a post with a link to an auction or a picture of a current auction, please send me a link to the post and i'll remove the link and photo. Also, if I'm so inclined to do it, the user who made the post will be given a warning. Time to clean this place up. Thanks!
Atease is a moderator here and the things we're talking about are in the unwritten rules wrote by Flynn the owner of the board. RTFM and welcome to the boards http://www.skullbrain.org/bb/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=13721&start=0&st=0&sk=t&sd=a
I know that there is a lot of grey area on certain things but one thing I would like as a requirement for new people signing up is to make them read the faq and "rules" before they post. It doesn't take long and it really helps.
Thanks for the education. strictly speaking, rule 5 doesn't say not to do it, it says essentially you may be shooting yourself in the foot if you do. But whatever...I have no intention of breaking rules. In fact, per rule 5, I plan to go through every thread shortly and report every one with a link to a place outside of super7 or skullbrain.org..
You could just leave instead. Just tossing it out there. If you don't like the way the board is run I'm sure you can start your own.
I Love this board and have no intention of leaving. I don't understand the hostility. Maybe it's not just the newbs who need to read Brian Flynn's unwritten rules...In particular, the one about sarcasm... I actually only reported one picture..and that's because it REALLY IS a picture from an auction I am watching very closely..
LOL. No. Hadn't missed that one. Since I tend to be one at times, (And I certainly seem to coming across as one in this thread) I was planning to use that one as my backup.
To be clear on live auctions, don't post them - wait for it ot be over. This is not to keep the "right" or "wrong" person from winning, but more of a general rule of courtesy - you do the work, you get the reward. Or you can think of it like dating, you don't go telling everyone you know to check out the girl your friend is dating, you let them work it out themselves. See you tomorrow!
