I'm totally light. Albino almost. I've been poking fun at the hyperbole of this thread since I posted temptation. Such a serious derivative from this band.
HAHA! I sent it to him, and he immediately replied with a link to "Jah Division" the all Joy Division dub cover band. aaaaaaaaaand that's why he's my friend.
“I take it as a compliment,” Hook said, adding that to his knowledge, Disney didn’t approach representatives handling Factory Records’ catalog or the surviving members of Joy Division for permission. “If I had a pound for every time someone bootlegged Joy Division, I’d be as rich as Disney. But it’s interesting in a kitsch way. It’s this cross between something very adult and this well-known image of childhood. I’ve heard it’s sold out, so maybe it’ll become a kind of urban legend…
The shirt got a lot of press including an L.A. Times article, and of course a lot of viral 'net buzz. It'll probably turn up again later. Kudos to Hooky for getting a chuckle out of it.
I just read that they pulled this shirt and are no longer selling them. Not sure what the outcry is (not in this thread but in general) ... I'm a huge radiohead fan. I could give a fuck if they collaborated with disney. Wouldn't buy the collab but I'd still love the group.
I was just reading about the shirt being pulled, and saw a link to an ebay auction for one, and the winning bid is hilarious. click here for finished auction
This is so funny. Somewhere I have a pic of me in the 80's wearing a Joy Division shirt at Disneyland. We were thrown out for smoking cigars (Bought on Main street BTW) in Videotopia.
I dunno its funny how its an outrage on the other side of the coin but everyone in toyland does some sort of mickey mouse mashup and even tho its played out theres no outrage when one of us releases yet another toy with some mickey pants or something like that. Specifically BxH.
Yesterday Jeremyriad posted "As it turns out, the ‘controversial’ T-shirt (which incorporated Mickey Mouse into Peter Saville’s iconic design) was not so much sold out as it was abruptly yanked. It seems that Disney’s research department missed a few salient details like the band’s Nazi nomenclature and its lead singer’s early departure by noose." http://www.jeremyriad.com/blog/beyond-t ... of-disney/
