Wait, wait, wait. Is that a Michigan-backed header?! You been holding out again David! Guess I need to come over there and teach you a lesson. Keep all the Gundam posts coming, a new influx of vinyl toy discussions (esp. robot/mecha links) is always great. Just so hard to have these superb toys be completely unreachable.
^ HEY, this is about strokes of pen and brush, not strokes of luck! Put it back in your pants, MB! So good, too, that the craziness is all based around an imagined Gundamverse; where all the prototypes walked straight out of the concept sketches and blueprints and into the action! Couldn't help myslef if I tried. Well, I did leave out a lot - the post was mostly an excuse to get decent sized images of the header out there. Not holding out, pH, just trying to avoid jinxing it!
Not to change the subject too much, but interesting to see that once again one of the toys, Greenmons, seems to have undergone some significant paint alterations to the final released version. Not sure that I like either necessarily better, but worthy noting. The darker green is cool, but I prefer the abundance of yellow on the earlier test shot, even if it had less added eyes [noticeable].
I saw that as well from the release email. I think it's just the lighting in the photo to be honest. Regardless there is no stateside connect anymore I really want to get that original colors Zarab postman.
Agreed that the initial Greenmons tease looked way more delicious. Nice to see the Yuji-style eyeballs confirmed, though. More troubling to me is this trend of him removing nearly all of the interesting pics and posts from his blog almost immediately! It used to be such a handy archive of what he was actually up to, toy producion-wise. I think I need to just start doing this: Spoiler
I really do wish there was a handy archive site of all his releases. It's hard to know what's out there!
LOL! There is one (well David has been updating it on page 7 more than me for sure): viewtopic.php?f=3&t=39197
right, I meant like a "real site" with all the images from the blogs etc too but of course that post is A++
Yep. In fact, I'd just finished updating it when I noticed these past two posts, ha! Shadow DB Complete, as far as I know, with the exception of shop-only painted micros. Grr. What do you mean "real"?
You can catalog a chunk of the painted minis using the litle book from the Spectreman,Zazahns,Garamon and Jamila release.
^ Send me a quality scan and I'm on it. All of my attempts to photograph it have led to wholly unsatisfactory results.
Anyone ever come across the Enmago and Jizzo set ? I want this to be my first item of buta but never have a chance.
That is kind of an odd question to put here. Firstly, they are not new, but people have come across them - in that they exist. But then, so do a lot of toys. And you don't see them all for sale. It is fair to put them on your wants as you have done, but also I wouldn't expect them just to be collecting dust unwanted on someone's shelf. Just as forewarning (and anyone around here will tell you the same), anyone getting into Buta should be expecting to put forth years of patience and dedicated searching to land a few figures. And then you also need a bit of luck in timing. Just saying, they are great toys, and I am happy that a lot of people love and appreciate Oohashi-san's work, but it isn't something to come into just on a whim, and thing you can build up easily like a collection of gashapon or something. As long as people are prepared and come into it with the right mindset, it can be as rewarding as any other [hyped/rarez] toy line, particularly for Tsubu fans.
Yes they exist and are out there. Posting every couple of months asking for them on a message board is probably not going to help you acquire them. Doing your own hunting and searching is much more likely to help you find them. Participating in Buta discussions, besides just asking for toys, will probably help you get to know the other Buta collectors, who may then help you out if they see something.
I got lucky and found mine (well Enmago) through a seller on SB 4 years ago. He's an odd one, pops up in bunches it seems then you don't see one for a long time. Guess it doesn't hurt to ask here, but isn't the Want List a barren wasteland of unfulfillment anymore? It's all friends and making honest connections here (in school terms- class participation) if you're not going the auction or store route.
This sure is one of the most beautiful header ever. So much going on, so colorful... Wow. How big is it ?
^ Tiny! Just over 4" across. 10.5 x 3.5 cm in French. For the sake of thoroughness: The missing license sticker.
I honestly think Ohashi San could sell as many prints of his watercolours as he does toys. I'm just pretending these Gundam toys dont exist. It's better for my health that way.
I wonder if the header card is a hint at future releases. - Gunboy is in the traditional Gundam colors. - The blue prototype MS is in Char red. (Probably based on Char's Z'Gok, which seems to be related to this prototype.) - One of the other prototype MS is shown in the lower right in color. Colors resemble the Dom. - The blue MS on the flying red platforms (Dodai) could be a recolor of the black YMS-08A. More likely they are Goufs, but supposedly the YMS-08A was rolled into development of the Gouf, so I could see a release of this model in the production Gouf colors. Maybe this is just wishful thinking on my part.
I must admit to having dorked out along similar lines, Daniel, but my dorking (pardon the expression) was more in speculation as to who all was populating this alternate Gundamverse. Gunboy as Gundam and Proto 2 as Char's MS are givens, and that's definitely proto-Dom masquerading as Dom, but the rest gets fuzzier as the watercolors do the same. I've decided, sans anything resembling proof, that the boogie board riders are Gouf-colored YMS-08As, and the green fella over proto-Dom's shoulder looks very much to me like he's Proto 1 from the produced toys. Speculating as to what colorways may or may not be coming down the pike isn't something that I can allow myself to do right now --- it just activates the collector anxiety in me too much! Any idea which suit this guy might be standing in for? I'm mid-way through my first watch of the series and I don't think I've seen anything that looks quite like it yet. That sounds about right. A bunch of us would have a dedicated wing in our imaginary homes, for sure.
