But it's not a work in progress; it's been done for months. All three look fantastic, but Greenmons is absolutely perfect!
Well, that was a test proto I am guessing. You know well that Dustman and Greenmons have been around for longer than months as well. By work in progress I mean, [he is] not sure if it will reach full production by the release date. Which I am sure he probably will, he is just trying to give a proactive warning, as he did with the Gundam figures.
Great to see that Dusty's pants are a fresh sculpt rather than a re-use of Robo's lowers. Man, that's easily the coolest looking Gokinosaurus that I've ever seen. So crude yet so smooth all at once. The paints are nicely ill, too. I wonder which of those fantastic colors are the base vinyl for Greenmons. Maybe a lime green?
There's already a baby ultra sculpt? Any pics? I think there's painted eyeballs for Greenmons too. Bottom right. I'd say the base vinyl is yellow. Buta hardly recycle sculpts but boy does he recycle base vinyl!
Ah! Thanks for the pics, D! Hope the eyeball will be a la M1go- red/black which seems to be the case?
Ehhh I guess I'm in a minority not really feeling these. I was psyched about Dustman and the colors/ face are cool, but he sort of looks like a walking zombie in that pose. Never liked Greenmon.
I think the new trio is the mutha f**kin bee's knees. Greenmons is 5 inches of floral kaiju perfection, and Dustman is another welcome addition to OMB's expanding Spectreman stable. Gokinosaurus is icing on the cake. So glad Buta took the Spectreman plunge, but I am always happiest when he returns to Tsubu critters it seems. Go Greenmons! Now we just need a Mammoth Flower.... The Gundams were well executed and fun because I enjoy Ohaashi's tangential endeavors, but robots are usually just not my thing. I am glad to see more bumpy, chunky, funky kaiju gracing his blog again. EDIT: I can't stand autocorrect on my phone. It thwarts every attempt at correct grammar/spelling.
Still fixating... Origin stories. It remains difficult to believe what he came up with from scraps! Buta ButaNoHana Mobile Suit Gundam XMS-08A Gunboy Prototype MS Part 1 & 2
They are awesome. But my god the aftermarket prices are insane! I hope reissues are around the corner soon.
Indeed! All the more maddening when you consider that one person designed and produced these from the ground up - right down to assembly, sprays and staples - forked over whatever the licensing costs must have been (not cheap, I'm imagining) and then only charged the public what amounts to $40 per toy for himself! A couple minor points of clarification: Near as I can tell it seems to be a direct homage to the original minis that Clover produced in '79: Pretty neat, huh? He's actually only fabbed up the two on the right... So far!
If I had to lodge anything resembling a complaint about new Gundam toys...* It would have been nice if all four characters, like the Clovers, had been cast in different base colors. This pic from Buta's shop has me wishing that Prototype #2, the blue-armed fella... ...had been done up in the lovely pink vinyl that you can see here. Sorry, Joe! Chara Hobby 2016? Okay. Done for the day. Pardon my spam. edit: Almost done... Spoiler But of course there's this: Eeesh. So many precedents to juggle! *Other than the obligatory jeers to be flung at the institutional flippers, of course.
There's so much story going on here that I just had to very carefully peel off the license sticker. Here's a frame from episode 23: Click to embiggen: I'd love to see the original paintings. General Revil salutes you! Header Buta ButaNoHana Mobile Suit Gundam XMS-08A Gunboy Prototype MS Part 1 & 2 Edited to contain even larger images of the header card, and to correct my perplexing writing of the word 'on' where 'off' was required. Damn stroke.
