So I have picked up the new Mars Volta disc (my first and only taste of MV) and really dig it. Muton has said their first disc is structurally different and I think I have heard and not liked pieces of it. Is any of their other releases like this knew one? Frances the Mute maybe?

Way ahaed of me Mori, I haven't heard the new one yet - but the rumours were that its more like the first one (deloused) than Frances is. I love the first one....but lost my CD in my house move, so haven't heard it in a while.

Hey, do you, or anyone here like Placebo? Totally underrated in the US, and not critical darlings in the UK - but consistently amazing in my book.

Placebo does alright over here in Aus world. I don't mind hearing their gear every so often, but not my thing to go out and buy. Still, they do well on the Alt. scene, nothing mainstream. In fact they are getting interviewed on the radio here right now!!

The new MV is pretty prog rock - I could even say it is pretty close to being a heavy version of Yes!! Long songs. Very extravagant virtuoso style solos and high pitch vocals, just heavy.
So what did you mean about the experimental MV stuff then Muton?

Back at page one my man. Actually it sounds like I read a bit more into it than was there anyway. Looks like all their music is out of the square in degrees.

for my money as far as MV go , you only need the firts 12"/cd on GSL that kills everything else they have released, the production is super raw, the vacals amazing, and it has an energy that they have never really recaptured IMHO and everything else they have done since then is weak compared to this, If i need a prog fix give me Zombi, they are amazing, anyone that is into MV, Goblin & rush  Should give them boys a listen on relapse records (they have a myspace too) two guys , one on bass and keyboards (at the same time ) and th most incredible drummer I have seen , he is like an octopus !
Don't care for EODMetal, too pop, give me Kyuss! or has anyone heard the slo burn record that was the first recorded work after Kyuss split and that is a monster of a record ! i dont think it's available anymore as the label went bust but i have it if people are interested in hearing, seriously makes the EODM sound like the girlies they are!

Kyuss was definately a band ahead of their time. But try not to hate too much if a musician wants to do something totally different and it doesn't work for you.
