I haven't had cable in a few years, but it sure doesn't stop me from making sure I am always in the loop with quality progrums. Being that virtually everything is accessible on DVD, now and then there are truly "essential" seasons of progrums that I would recommend to anyone...regardless of whether you follow the show. These are my recommendations...I'd love to hear yours. The only criteria: you love it so much, you actually bought it (or rented it many times). Curb Your Enthusiasm--Seasons 1 & 6 Seinfeld--Seasons 4, 5 & 6 The Wire--Season 1 The Shield--Season 5 It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia--Seasons 2 & 4 Flight Of The Concords--Season 1 Breaking Bad--Seasons 1 & 2 Arrested Development--Seasons 1 & 2 Weeds--Season 1 Mr. Show--Seasons 1 & 4 Rescue Me--Seasons 1 & 2
Not recent, but I do own: X-Files - seasons 1-9 (I don't think I've actually watched season 9 all the way tho, cause come on it's just silly) Venture Bros - 1 & 2 how's about downloaded it several times??? Lost- 1 - 4
Its always sunny in Philadelphia Sons of Anarchy And I didnt know season 2 of Breaking Bad came out ?
never watch tv anymore, but essentials i have on dvd: seinfeld, curb, futurama, sealab, venture bros, south park ...what can i say, i guess i like cartoons and larry david
I'd add Season 2 as well. It started a little slow, I think, but some of the S2 episodes are the best of the bunch. "Too Many Dicks on the Dance Floor" is hilarious. Being in NZ and watching these episodes adds a little something to them as well. Our favorite thing is checking out the new tourism poster above Murray's desk in every episode. The best slogan is still "NEW ZEALAND WHY NOT?" Sounds like our decision process for coming here. -- jJ
Murray is one of my votes for contemporary best supporting TV character. OMG he is hysterical. And I do agree, the 2nd season of Concords features two best songs "Too Many Dicks..." and "Sugar Lumps". Both are clipped on the Y'Tube, watch them!
I have rented Lars Von Trier's 'The Kingdom' (made for Danish TV) and am almost through. Good stuff!!
Guess I'll put The Wire, The Shield and Arrested Development on the 'To Watch' list! Currently sitting through House MD seasons 1-5 then got Greys Anatomy 1-5 and The Fringe lined up! . . . . I'm either a sucker for medical drama or I have a 'thing' for nurses!
I got lost watching Lost after season 2 . . . how come they never knew there was another colony at the other side of the island . . . fuckwits!
Same exact thing happened to me watching Lost during season two. That and they would take far too long to work through even the most mundane story lines. When ABC decided to put the show on hiatus for 6 months I said fuck this! Thanks to DVD I can now fast forward through the dumb sappy parts. I'd add Fringe, Upright Citizens Brigade, Nathan Barley, and Mighty Boosh. Also these BBC programs: Planet Earth and Blue Ocean.
The Sopranos The Wire Oz Homicide: Life on the street Flight of the Conchords Weeds Arrested Development
Peep show is probably the tv show that made me feel the most uncomfortable and embarrassed watching it ever. I actually turned off episodes and had to come back prepared for the characters humilation later.
I watched some clips of Spaced--very funny. That group of Brits are a trip!! @Lixx: my bro told me about Might Boosh...said it was bizarre. I need to see it. And, Planet Earth is a staple--SHOULD be a staple--in any house. It might be the best all-around progrum made, IMO.
I love Peep Show, but i can totally understand where you're coming from here. It's almost painful to watch Mark do the shit he does. In addition to Peep Show, That Mitchel and Webb Look is great as well.
