Been a while since I post something of my own here I think. This was an incredibly gluttonous purchase for me, and one I am not exactly proud of, but alas, I had to make it happen, and it marked a special occasion. One of those toys I might never have the shot at for any price within reason, such is the nature of Buta collecting these days. But, he will happily [eventually] join his robotic companions, and of course other Oohashi-san monsters. Now if I could only somehow find an RX-78...

Quite happy with this little fella, even he can't pilot away in his mecha. Fun to see OMB take on such a different license, and somehow, I really get that in these toys. But just as much there is his love behind it (like with Ultraman) for all things Gundam. The paint application on the Amuros can be a bit all over the place, but it does lend each one its own hand-touched character. There is some very subtle silver sprays you can just make out from my crappy photos along his boots and gloves.

HUZZAAA!!!!! :D:D:D Congratulations Stevie! That is a wonderful adoption! Sometimes you have to indulge in a little gluttony  , as life is very short, and you have to enjoy something some time!

Speaking of gluttony, I've been eyeing this beauty for a couple of months, and to my chagrin, he sold a few days ago for the "modest" price of 50000 JPY :x:x:x (and you thought that Kong auction was bad!) :x
    [IMG]

and no, it was not me who adopted. A real beauty, and a definite grail of mine (cough... cough... @evom ), but what a price!

p.s. the Instagram Buta page seems to be functional again!

Wow (@ the Kong)! Remember when those were sitting around on Grumble Toy at $30 a pop forever and ever?

    (I remember.)

    So do I!
    and in a similar vein...
    http://grumbletoy.blogspot.com/2008/06/buta-no-hana-grumble-toy-exclusive.html

and I remember buta dinos sitting around on the shelves of the original JP town Super 7 store, for months! :x Still will never forgive myself for dashing out the door with a sack full of dinos, then being pulled by my Ex, only to spy a GID Green Baltan, wanting to go back to get him, and my Ex telling me to wait, "next time" :x:x:x:x:x:x:x:x:x:x:x:x:x:x:x:x:x:x Argh!

Oh I know! Many times I have been forlorn for all those things left passed by, so many wonderful and joyous Butas could have been adopted had we know then what we know now. And to think we also used to have, gasp, multiple avenues where one might purchase Buta toys! Please forgive us Chris, we knew not what we did. Alas, those were the golden years, and I guess all of us thought it would continue. Lesson learned. In a very hard way. :(

I remember as well. Hell remember that GID Pink Baltan sitting on grasshut forever? Also there is a GID Hayabusa sitting at the bottom of a lake in Florida from a stolen UPS truck that went into it.

And I am still so sorely tempted to rent some diving equipment for it too. If I wasn't constantly halfway around the world, rest assured I would have already done so. Heck, for the adventure alone it would be worth it. I can already see the coming documentary feature, beginning with the great history of these toys, all us sofubi geeks, and the epic story of its mysterious disappearance and painstaking search and (hopefully) ultimate recovery and reunification with fellow Buta toys. Heck, it practically writes itself. [or maybe I have watched too many docs in my life...but still, all the same I sure as heck would watch the hell out it!]

Man, I passed up that Gundam pilot at the Super7 booth at DCon. And they had it at a good price. Not sure what I was thinking.

And didn't the dinos sit f o r e v e r in Mr. O's website shop? Almost a year? Not to mention all the buta that languished in the Kaiju Taro shop. :x

Stop, stop, we're just torturing ourselves too much guys! :( Okay, trying to pull this back to more positive Buta sharing, as usual, even OMB's headers never cease to please and inspire with their whimsy and joy:

Well at least I able to scoop up the Naked Cavemen Set from Kaiju Taro for 3000 yen back many many years ago. Pretty much only one of a handful of times I can say "wow great deal on Buta I missed out on initially".

I regret never going deep on the Butanohana paper sculpts. Alas.
Deep hurt. I had a chance but...

    Back to pic posting.

Wow the original paper stuff? I don't think I was even here then. Saw an article on those and another artist who was making paper cut and fold robot sheets. I was intrigued but had no clue. Wow. Paper. Damn.

Definitely a lovely photo, Manny. Love the monkey - he's has such a wonderfully fun smile, and his smeared lipstick just wins me over every time. I think these releases are possibly some of the most underrated of all his work. They are never that hyped or popular, but look at the sculpt detail; the amount of time and effort Oohashi-san put in to these figures is pretty amazing.

I like my dinos a little on the trashy side.

And why are you being coy with the giant spaceman in the back?

Gee, talking about playing out the long, subtle reveal! :D Gorgeous man. That spaceman is some kind of crazy addition to a toy shelf. Two lovely new family guys you picked up there. It's also quite funny to see the dino being dwarfed by the spaceonaut - I can see the crazy and fun pulp B-movie now; the only question is who is visiting whom?

Couldn't resist. With the spaceman in the house I will eat my ramen and lay back while I wait for the wallet to re-inflate. Have to pretty much redo the shelves now anyway. May everyone here have all their collecting dreams come true as well!
