    Hi fellow skullbrainers.

I already posted these images on flickr but I thought I'd show them off over here as well. I am currently working on a new mini figure series and although I have no proof for the claim I think it may very well be the tiniest blindbox series to date.

Here are some images of the wax masters.

These are not all of the figures that will be available though. Overall there will ten different sculpts out of which seven will be published, three will remain secret and out of these one will be a chase.

The first run of these will be exclusively available at my upcoming show at TAG, in Hollywood, LA.

    And here is why:

These are test casts. The final ones will in translucent color.

    Some side notes of interest:

    1. The material I used is not resin but isomalt, a sugar substitute that is common in a wide range of pharmaceutic and diet products as well as in patisserie and sugar casting art. I have yet to figure out how to cast without any bubbles. Oiling the silicone helps but does not remove all bubbles. It is interesting to note that the bubbles usually only happen on the surface and not on the inside of the isomalt.

    2. Here is also one of the reasons why the sculptures are so tiny. They are sculpted to be fit into a regular 00-sized gelatine capsule.

    3. Yes, this whole toy is eatable. All materials that I am using, even the silicone, are safe and non-toxic. Swallow it and you will never see it again.

Next stop. Packaging art and more casting. Now with color.

Holy cow. That is one wicked idea. I love the sugar casting. If you decide not to swallow them will they hold up indeffinately? Also is there only 10 total or multiples of 10 designs and will they be available to purchase online?

Thanks for the good words. I am not sure if they will hold up indefinitely. Probably not because it is food after all but as far as I know you can store it safely for quite a bit without having to worry about it. I made 10 different sculpts and each one will be cast multiple times. I have yet to determine the quantity and color of the first run. But one thing is sure, they will be available online as well. The first release will be a Toy Art Gallery exclusive and depending on the sales of the preview list and opening the remaining ones will probably go online some time later.

I have decided that a blueish turquoise will be the color for the first release. Here is an example of how it will probably look. Well, if you decide to open the blister packaging, that is.

I am not sure though if I am going to stick with the translucent sugar. It is so clear that it is hard to make out all the sculpted details. And the gelatine capsules do not help much either. I may need to switch to an opaque food colorant.

What an incredible idea! I think you should do these in resin as well! ;)

I really like the color versions of these. I agree with Marty resin versions would be an excellent idea

The concept here is stunningly cool, and the sculptures so beautiful! Best of luck with this project and please keep us informed. Really great work.

    Background story:
    Some info (again, just because):
These tiny sculptures are cast in isomalt a sugar substitute frequently found in pharmaceutic and diet products. The capsules are made from gelatine. So basically the whole thing is edible. However, I still wouldn't recommend it because well, I haven't tested the effects...

They come in a handmade blister capsule packaging and a handmade box. There will be 10 different sculptures out of which 2 will be less often and one will be a chase. I will take not have a set of only one sculpture but I can not promise that there won't be doubles. No single purchase will be possible.

The first run of these will be release at my show at LA's Toy Art Gallery.

That's what I am wondering about as well... Having a stack of 20 of these boxes in a suitcase might look a bit suspicious. And then imagine me trying to explain "you, see, officer, it's art. Candy, if you will..." Sure.

It was nice meeting you at Super7 Saturday evening, Daniel. Your tiny capsule toys are really quite amazing. Best of luck at your show in L.A.

It was a lot of fun for me as well. It was great to be able to finally meet you and all the others. I'll be flying to LA today and I am very excited about my second week in the US. I hope I can return some time so I can hang with everyone again (including all those I missed in SF).

i thought i saw somebody hold up some of those blue pill capsules. i didn't get a chance to see them though and didn't realize you'd be there. sorry, would've been nice to say hello :)

these are awesome in both variety and packaging. very appealing stuff, good job. this is my favorite of all your stuff so far. the netzwerk figures are well done too, but just not my kind of toys. these little buggers are more my speed.

I managed to order won of these. I'm excited to see them in person. I love the premise of it and that it is an original concept work of art for my collection.

They made it through customs b/c I got a set from Daniel last Friday. These are great. I love the use of innovative materials here, clever packaging and the idea of toys as medicine.
