The thing that bums me out the most is that in the last 10 years... NO ONE really mentioned mad toys. Now they have to pay more for the homage. Some on this board collected them from the start and I hope they score.

Do legit og original recipe skullbrainers with unlimited street cred really want to pay $800 for a $200 toy?

If I had to guess I would assume the new bootleg vinyl versions of this stuff probably caused the huge jump in price. If someone hates flippers imagine how they feel about bootleggers. I mean you can't lower your price to compete with your own fakes so why not quadruple it since it's still significantly less than people resell your stuff for? Those are your two choices right? Make your stuff easier to get or charge closer to mandrake prices.

Skullbrainers, as collectors of vinyl dolly's, and 'unlimited street cred' are mutually exclusive!

One or the other . . . never the two together!

Shiiiiiiiii.....you know you OG 'brainers be harder than the rest, dawg.

HxS has always made very nice, well-executed toys. I stopped collecting his line a while ago (except for Pus-related releases) in part because of my completionest tendencies....with every aftermarket toy costing in the thousands, the chase just wasn't worth it to me anymore.

There are many makers out there with the same quality vinyl and paints for a fraction of the price (Secret Base, Shirahama, M1GO, the list goes on considerably). It is very impressive that Hirota sculpts, pulls his own vinyl, and does his own painting. He is a powerhouse in the hobby to be sure. But for example, M1GO stuff is on par with Hirota's in terms of quality, and you can have a respectable M1 collection for the cost of one HxS toy. Sure there are run size issues to take into account, but typically Hirota's runs aren't tiny (50 or more these days last time I checked, with exceptions of course) and there are many versions of each sculpt.

Hirota is a massively, massively talented dude and a really nice guy to boot. I don't blame him a bit for charging more. But newcomer hypebeasts should realize there are cheaper ways to get your ya-ya's in this hobby, especially with regard to aftermarket pricing. This is coming from a guy who still regularly overpays for stuff I'm chasing....so take my somewhat hypocritical advice with a grain of salt. ;) There is a very real and material difference in overpaying by the hundreds and overpaying by the thousands, though.

When you're overpaying by the hundreds you're also nuts. They're just toys :|

    Can't argue with that!

If you're looking for affordable, pragmatic, rational purchases, you might be in the wrong hobby though.

I'm not saying it can't happen once or twice, but if you're constantly overpaying by the hundreds (let alone thousands) you're totally crazy.

I am totally crazy, but I'm not constantly overpaying. Anybody who's been in the hobby for a little while has figured out how to mitigate overpaying constantly, the key usually being patience.

Thanks for the advice. I would ask and offer advice on your collecting, but I don't give a damn about your personal collecting habits.

Hey, if that's the way you collect, then that's your business. I'm just saying i don't collect that way. I try to stay away from hyped brands as much as possible, or i would be burned out in no time.

If by "street" you mean that narrow exposed staircase leading into the basement then you are correct.

I can agree with most of that, and you are right that you could have a respectable collection of many other equally quality lines for the cost of one HxS in the after market. My problem is that I really love the Mecha Gorilla Ju sculpt.. the similar Target Earth gorilla is nice but not that same. The hype monster must have a hold on me!

It's cool that Hirota is updating his blog these days. I really like the new combined piece. who would of had known that they would connect and look so good. When I saw this image from IG,

I seriously thought it was a new release from target earth and thought WTF??? they went to far this time...

but then I noticed it was a legit combination of HXS pieces and the photo was just modified to look like it has more contrast.

Totally digging the matte/glossy look of the 800 release, but i did not enter. Couldn’t justify it honestly

If I had a dollar for every HxS repost, I could've afforded that last release

Same here, except I think all my hair is grey now.

With the recent wave of posts from winners, I have to admit I like the numbering on the headers. I mean the actual numbers. It's a thick, slashy sort of handwriting.
I'm sure we're all looking at who got which ##/33 to an extent (or any other edition, for that matter), so you know the font.
