This has been a long time in the works, but I'm really pleased to say that I've finally cast my first resin toy. Meet the first Secret Chief - a cultist with a brain worm eating away what's left of his already rotten mind. A mindless puppet bending to the will of his mysterious master. Will hopefully get some detail pictures on here soon, but this is the first somewhat successful cast worth showing, so I hope you'll welcome him. Designed and produced by myself, sculpted by my infinitely more talented compadre and mentor- Roger Phillips. Would love to get some feedback, so have at it!
Re: Genesis of the Secret Chiefs Dude I love the details in the back! This is nitpicking but I think if the ears were sticking out a bit at the tips it would give it some more dimension. It reads super flat in the front view, the ears might give it a nice frame. Also love that you have a story going for it. Cant wait to see the rest of the crew.
Re: Genesis of the Secret Chiefs Thanks man, much appreciated! Yeah, I do see what you mean with the ears. I think we toned them down from the original design way back because we thought it would prevent underlocking and any awkward details, but actually after seeing how the nose came out, we could probably get away with it again.
Re: Genesis of the Secret Chiefs Just playing about with some colour tests on the mis-casts right now. Think this selection may work though. Turning out to be quite advantageous having a few to ruin before deciding.
Re: Genesis of the Secret Chiefs Thanks for the kind words so far everyone. Chief number 2 is being refined and sculpted very soon - once we've finished the paints and packaging for the first. I'm so glad people seem to like the backstory as it's something we're taking even further - designing iconography for the religion etc. to accompany number 2 and onwards.
Re: Genesis of the Secret Chiefs Thanks Banshee. More news coming soon, I promise. As for the name - I read that Crowley used it to refer to beings of transcendental power or something to that affect. It just resonated straight away because the whole idea was that some unseen dark lord is planting these brain worms inside followers and basically using them as hives. We'll definitely be expanding this idea with future sculpts.
Re: Genesis of the Secret Chiefs OK, so here's the first paint choice. The headers and packaging are coming together now too, whilst the others get painted in these colours. Wish I could take credit for this, but alas, the paintwork is thanks to my very talented and patient sculptor/mentor - Roger. More images coming soon, once I get them all in-hand and able to take a decent photo, but I just wanted to share this today as it's the first time I've seen the paint myself and I'm very pleased, but also wanted to see how people felt about it.
Re: Genesis of the Secret Chiefs Finally got to bag and tag the first run of chiefs today. Incredibly pleased with how these turned out. I would highly recommend making your own toys to any toy lover - genuinely gave me a better feeling stapling those header cards than it did removing them from one belonging to a sought-after grail toy. More chiefs are now underway, along with an edit of this sculpt and more colourways. Hoping that the next run will be even bigger and better, so stay tuned and thank you all for your interest and kind words so far!
Re: Genesis of the Secret Chiefs Wow this is sooo cool! This colorway immediately reminded me of "The Count" from Sesame Street
Re: Genesis of the Secret Chiefs OK, so the project changed a little since the last post. We quit resin in pursuit of vinyl, but thought it best to take a back-seat and see if anyone actually liked what we did first, playing it a little safer with keshi-style! Thanks to Tru:Tek, this is our first proper release. A companion piece to our first Secret Chief, this 'Slave' character seemed most popular so we decided to make him first. They'll actually be on sale tomorrow, and all the details can be found over at drwgco.wordpress.com along with our Instagram He comes with a neat little fake Bikkuriman sticker and character scroll, plus we'll also be reducing the price of our companion 'zine. Thanks to everyone on this board that threw kind words my way through this thread, or elsewhere, not forgetting the resin tutorials that helped get this all started. I really hope you guys like what we're doing.
Re: Genesis of the Secret Chiefs Ghostbusters 2 slime pink slave released for Halloween. Next up is a new character called The Librarian - a cycloptic introvert that pores over forgotten tomes and studies the most ancient methods of mind control. Here's a sneak peek at the sculpt and the artwork for the accompanying sticker. There's also a turnaround video on Instagram that shows the sculpt in more detail. @drwgco All being cast in keshi rubber by the almighty Trutek.
