i have an hour lunch so im hoping thats enough time to say hello and purchase a small toy. @debparis i will post in the thread what the situation is when i arrive
Should this be in purple? It's gonna be a clam-sweat toynerd free-for-all cluster*ck with a million dudes (and ladeeez) playing the equivalent of musical chairs on the sidewalk in front of the store . . . with the front door being the last seat!
Yo! I just smashed a grilled cheese from In N Out and now I’m coming in hot. I just might make this thing?
i saw the line and immediately left. looked like at least 70 people. Tons of people who look like resellers as well
ok maybe i lied 100+ people? all i know is it was too much but congrats to mori and the rest of them for a great turn out on a mid week work day with rain
Yesssssss, and they are really really good. They are not on the menu, but u just ask for them. If you eat one, I promise u will love it! Ya gotta get fried onions tho.
My haul for the day but holy fuck am I tired. Worth it though! I would say a lot of ppl lined up early regardless so I was very confused when I got to the site. Great to see the ppl who attended and thanks Mitch for the chair while I waited. Now I'm probably just gonna lie down and relax until I fall asleep lol.
So looks like 100+ people, maybe mostly re-sellers who are probably getting ready to wreck D-Con as well. Hope some collectors got some pieces.
It was a bit of a bummer the way the lining up turned out, but the crew were doing their best. Got some great pieces from the show. I’d rather deal with this than doing it at dcon. But definitely fuck those old people that were definitely in line just to flip stuff. The lady in the pink tracksuit was definitely not a collector.
Yah, agreed E the lining up was a huge bummer. Did you or anyone else see any minis? Was hoping to score one but would love to at least see what others got!
Weeks before the event I mentioned to event organizers how you cannot do first come first serve without letting people line up, and my concerns were shoved aside. I respectfully mentioned how many people were confused, and some couldn't even purchase properly, in a Discord group focused around sofubi, and got kicked for speaking my mind. In the past I've given SB flack for letting its users be "rough" towards one another, but this opposite side where we silence any voice that is not singing praise from the high heavens is no better. With that said, there were some amazing pieces, and I'm happy for my friends who were able to get what they wanted.
Sounds similar to the tribulations faced at the Australian show but at least the organisers for this event seem decent enough as opposed to being in bed with the flippers themselves.
Despite what I said above, which is regrettable, the helpers in USA are good people and I believe they really did want to be fair.
Think we posted at almost the same time so 1..2..3...JINX! Sorry to hear if it is the case that you couldn’t engage in a proper discourse by voicing the concerns of attendees - bearing in mind I don’t know the full picture so I’ll restrain from further commentary.
My understanding was that the organizers for the Australian show were also kind of helping the flippers? Is that for sure? I’ve heard that from collectors everyone knows and trusts. But the Game of Hope crew are awesome specifically Nick and Mitch, I don’t know the other people involved to well but if those guys had them help then they must be on the level. I feel like the old style of flipping was a specific person everyone got to know. Now it seems to be small groups of people working in teams. I don’t understand anything beyond that, are they being paid by M World or what’s happening? I’m also speaking as someone that has waited around plenty of conventions and ones overseas. It can’t not be related and you can’t unsee the mannerisms once you encounter them.
Yes 100% they were. Anyone who knows me personally has probably heard me ramble on about it too much though, “Organisers” taking photos of the show then going out and disseminating amongst the flippers etc. I believe M World also had a presence and one of the flipper dons - Leo Sofubi or whatever he goes by, does the rounds at conventions worldwide with absolutely crazy prices (even for flipper standards) and usually awaits specifically high paying Chinese customers. Agreed.
Not small groups, it's large teams. A year or two ago the same person who walked away with a full grocery bag of Refreshment Toys at Curio-Con had about 20+ people who are paid at D-Con. They are organized. Every year they get bolder. They are shameless in their greed. As long as people are willing to pay flipper prices they will always be in business.
Kudos to the organizers! Suggestion for the next show maybe they can do an invite only. Got to the show, show your invite get a wristband. No invite you go to the back of the line.
