More 'Playful Pets' from a boot-sale. I dug through a big box of random toys to find these.
Its surprising how much noise digging through a big heap of toys can make . . . .

    20p each.

Yeah I am always that guy, and I am big and in the way too usually. Locals give me funny looks sometimes, but you never know what treasure is gonna be at the bottom of a box of crap.

    Oh, yes indeed.

Here's a cool little junk-shop find. I think this is 'Rosie' who is Topo Gigio's girlfriend.
    I would guess 60's or 70's.

    Yeah, i would say so.
I love the 'sun sun' on his shirt . . . this is the first 'Playful Pet' i've found with any writing on the clothes.

    Haha, i see it more as 'Creepy & Mischievous' . . .

Bought this from a toy collector at a boot-sale for £1. It needed a lot of cleaning but underneath the grime
its in very good condition. Wind him up and he skitters all over the place like a mad thing.

1970's made in Japan by 'Daito'.

    ^^ Yeah, he's a cute one!

This mule is from the same seller. She thought it was broken, so she sold it to me for 50p.
She did'nt realise the turnip is supposed to be a separate piece.

'Moody the Magnetic Mule' by Gantoy. Made in England in the 50's.

His neck, head and jaw are articulated. The red turnip-ring has both 'pull' and 'push' magnets on opposite sides . . . .
when these are put near the corresponding magnet in the Mule's mouth he moves around without having to touch him.
    The effect is surprisingly life-like.

I like the way his eyes are actually the hinges for the jaw which move when the jaw opens. Quite a clever design.

Ha, cool find, and what a great idea for a toy. As a kid I loved anything like this that had magnets (still do, technically, they just aren't around like they used to be really). [Starcom, anyone?] Funny that these were popular enough to have a series made, the mint one on the end is probably my favourite.

Futagonomonchhichi . . . try saying that late at night after a few beers!

More boot sale cuteness. These were in a little pile but an old lady got to one first. I grabbed these three directly from under her nose.
I assume she was buying it for her granddaughter, but maybe it was for herself . . . .

The seller said they were her childhood toys. Going on her appearance i would guess these toys are 70's or early 80's.
    50p each.

Oooh, great Monchhichis Moog. Is it silly I am pretty jealous of you for those? I really need to come garage saling with you - but then we might get into a fistfight! A childhood toy for me too, so they bring back some memories. What is really cool though is that you snagged some 'non-normal' ones. Each is not really the traditional style, which is cool. These are actually still going strong, esp. in Japan, though I don't find that the newer versions have the same appeal or look to me. That monkey though is something else entirely. If you feel you've got too much fluffy stuff on your shelves - you know who to turn to! Damn Moog, wherever you go for all these amazing finds, don't stop.

Nope, you just have good taste, sir.

Haha, not likely - its an addiction.

Yeah, the monkey is especially unusual. I have seen many types of Monchhichi-esque toys over the years but rarely cheap at boot-sales.
They are usually on ebay for unrealistic prices . . .

I agree, newer Monchhichi dont seem to have the same amount of charm as vintage ones.

    20p at a boot-sale.

There is something extra cute about this sculpt. I think its the large paws.
