in 2006, there were indeed a few marbled 1/1 zyurais and mavs offered to 'jo-lian' (regular customers), it was for his 1st anniversary. i thought he mentioned he offered 3 Zs to different people at that time. i think he could have painted more at that time and kept them till later dates like what you suspected. whoever sold these to mandarake is close to cronic for sure, or could even be cronic himself. it is a pity cronic's life got messed up, to me his paints are still one of the best !
nice to see these Zyurai I had never seen and thanks for your posting pics!! Cronic keeps surprising me with such stuffs.
I recently had the good fortune to obtain another one of the collaboration Gumoz painted by Cronic. I have a certain fascination with the plain marbled handpaints, but the combination of both marbled and spray painted styles was undoubtedly the right choice here. Just an amazing, ornate gem of a figure.
usually, the head-to-toe rainbow fade color scheme doesn't do much for me, so this simulated iridescence is a "fresh" take on it that really works for the toy. stunning!
Way back in January 2007, there was a Dream Rocket Gumoz displayed on Cronic's table at Super Festival 41, done up in Cronic's trademark marbled hand-painting (see here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/kaiju-taro/349118510/). A sign behind the figure simply read: "Dream Rocket Gumol / CRONIC Hand paint / Coming Soon". It was gorgeous. I love Dream Rocket, Gumoz in particular. I love Cronic, particularly his special paint techniques. I desperately wanted to know when and where these would drop. But they would not be 'coming soon' as the sign suggested. After asking about the figure for the next couple years, I heard that the project was side-lined. The beautiful Gumoz on display at Super Festival was probably sitting, forgotten and dusty, on someone's workshop shelf. Then in late 2009, I learned that Cronic had gone through with the hand-painted Gumoz earlier that year. But he only made a few and they were sold by lottery conducted by direct mail (guess I am not on his Christmas card list). After finding the first such collab Gumoz on a trip to Japan, I was stunned to see the original Super Festival marbled Gumoz show up a few months later on Mandarake, now sporting additional metallic paint details. By comparing the colors and marbling pattern, I was certain that this was the exact same Gumoz that was on display in 2007 ...but it had already sold out. I was crushed. Dream Rocket toys do not tend to circulate much, so I was certain that I would never see it again. Fast forward about 3 1/2 years to this year. I am sitting in an airport waiting for a flight, when I randomly pull up Mandarake's online webstore on my phone. To my disbelief, there for sale is the exact same Gumoz that sold years earlier- now selling at a completely different Mandarake. I quickly put it in my cart and check out, and a few days later, this fellow arrived at my home. Simple as that. I have to chalk this one up to toy karma, although I hate saying that because it sounds conceited. But there is just no other way that I should have this in my collection given the odds. This is one of those figures that represents a piece of toy history for me, and some days I think I could happily end my collecting with this find. But there's still a lot of RxH out there. ;p
^ I came here to post some goofy weed photo, but that story was pretty awesome so I'm glad I didn't. And a really cool looking guy too. Congratulations!!
Not sure where this Dorome is from. It is actually the clear amber version painted almost completely black with white markings. It came in a mesh bag with a 'business card' insert. Maybe a Patchi-Summit lottery item? Anyone know?
the black dorome is from pachi summit (cannot remember the year but i believe 0. but i remembered there were 5 because it soldout right after me and i was #5 i believe its an amazing price what u got it for! great score.
Ah, thanks! That would make sense since the clear amber first version came out at around the same time.
My focus for Cronic is Zyuraiasu, but have a handful of special maverasus including this SatanKing Mav from the S7 show many years ago.
Wow, had no idea that the dream rocket collab even existed; thanks for showing those incredible pix! I don't think that I've ever seen paint that intricate and good on any other toy, ever!
U beat me to it again ! Nice grab, these works were from the peak of cronic output. Suddenly realised how long has cronic been gone.
I don't collect Cronic or Dream Rocket, but this is truly beautiful and a wonderful story! AWESOME!!! Congratulations!!!
