Thanks all, I'm psyched as hell. Didn't think I'd pick up anything so these were a great event in a rather shitty month.
I was wondering about the weapons as well, and if they've been modified. Maybe someone here will recognize something and fill us in. I was surprised at how solid they are, there's some weight to them and they don't feel as fragile as they look...

Some of the best cronic pieces hands down, the pinstriping never looked so good. Not sure if it's been covered as this is the first time I've seen these, but are the weapons metal?

no, they are not metal, else it will affect the weight and balance of the figures.
most of the weapons are custom painted.

Hmm, the weapon for my Bakurasu (pics coming soon) is definitely metal. He has to hold it above his head to keep balance. Looks like something right out of Gangs of New York!

Looks like it's custom made. Not sure if the rest of them are.

More Black Parade figures, with a bit of old school mixed in (General Maverasu).

    Cheers, folks!

Flatline - When I saw the Camo Doro in the BP3 pics, I thought for sure there was no way I'd get it, but there it was on the OneUp site after the event, and I nearly flipped out!

Uberboy - I'm with you. In general, I'm not at all into war toys or camo paint jobs. But these were done so nicely, and they fit the character of the toys so well, that I was instantly into them. Even my GF, who's pretty much the same way about war toys/films/etc. agreed we should go for the Bak and Tri camo PS set at BP1.

I think Naoki has been into modeling for quite a while, so for him the set makes total sense. The Maverasu I added to the crew was the 5th painted version of the character released (April 2006), so my thinking is Naoki has wanted to do a full-on camo series for a while.

HOLY fuck ANDY! Wow. Color me jealous. Individually those are great, but as a set, those are too cool for words.

Jealous of you too, James. I'd give up some serious trade goods for any of those.

All the camo pieces from BP look amazing. Looks less glossy than the typical paint used which totally works with the style. I can't believe there was a camo Nougaki tank left over from the 3rd day as well. Someone got pretty lucky with that piece... Congrats on your pick ups Andy, you cleaned up!

Andy, Naoki has really stepped up the camo paint apps since the first Black Parade. I picked up the sand/camo Nougaki with tank at the first BP and these new ones really show Naoki's progression. Mine is a flat camo too, which I hadn't seen much in his paints. Your camo crew looks awesome together.

I seriously don't think any of the kaiju makers are going to catch up with Cronic's creativity any time soon. He's pushing his figures consistently into better and more exciting directions.

I was so jealous that I didn't score anything from the S7 Black Parade - the Nougaki tank was one of the highlights!! Only a few pieces were released at that show, and you pretty much had to be there or have inside contacts. Sure took a while for Naoki to have another show, but I'm glad he did! It would be cool if this turned into a yearly thing, eh?

I agree Naoki's style just keeps expanding and evolving. For a while earlier in the year, he fell a bit too much in love with metallic paint and "color spot" (making up a phrase here, since I don't know what else to call it) spray work. That lent itself to larger runs but was really moving away from Cronic's core style and "painting spirit". Then all of a sudden BOOM! 2008 Fall Pachisummit arrived, with a mind blowing Bakurasu, Zyurai Asu, etc. Black Parade I-III was a trio of amazing peaks.

Small runs (or one-offs) let Naoki focus on the design without worrying about cranking out a bunch figures. I think a lot of other designers have it in them to create mind-blowing one-offs or short-runs, but those really take time and don't bring in as much $$$ as "production" runs of 50-100 pieces. But I'd love to see more of this shift back to the "craft" (and away from paint masks!!!) because there's so much talent out there. I'm willing to pay more for smaller runs (and one-offs, of course) if they're excellent designs painted by the original kaiju maker.
