Not only do you have to recognize the songs, you have to imitate them in some cases! :and that's not easy :x .Well all that hiking will serve you in good stead for carrying heavy samples, equipment, and tromping up and down the terrain!

HA! Well I am here and call first dibs, if you are gonna sell your Buta! :D  :D I've been reading the Mo Buta thread from the beginning and definitely do admire your photos and toys too! ;)

I've spent a good time this year with my local Canyon Towhee.
They are crazy for Cashews and extremely intelligent, often waiting by the Kitchen door for me. A few times even strolling right into my studio to hit me up. They had me trained. I am a fan!

Haven't seen my "regular" since the babies got big enough to leave. Probably on vacation!

    Wow great photo @itsa_mia !

@Paulkaiju that's pretty crazy that you both had such a domesticated relationship.

I went to another park this afternoon saw a few more:

    Eastern Towhee:
    Yellow Rumped Warbler:
    Black & White Warbler:
    Palm Warbler:

    Yellow Warbler:

My problem is my stupid telephoto lens is 70-300mm BUT not VR (Vibration reduction) so despite my best efforts to not shake I do. I try to set the shutter speed at least to 1/80 1/100 minimum to help but then I lose exposure light.

i was out today and saw a nice blue heron but every pic is pretty soft.

@itsa_mia No that's a great shot. Nice lighting. Red Wing Blackbirds tend to at least sit for a bit and give you a moment to compose the shot. Warblers do not! Damn these little birds. Anyhow at least I saw some life birds today:

    Rose-breasted Grosbeak
    [IMG]

    Scarlet Tanager
    [IMG]

I saw a Scarlet Tanager last year in Williamsville but this year I had my doubts I could repeat. I went deep into Evansburg State Park today and I hiked down to a riverbed. It was so remote I don't think I saw a single person till leaving. Of course looking up at the canopy for a scan you can't miss these males. Only problem is I can never get a clear shot of one because I always see them where they like to hang -about 100 feet at the tops of trees!

I've never seen a Rose-breasted Grosbeak and as par for the course with me 80% of the times I go birding as I wrap it up and head home something interesting pops up. Today I caught this guy as I was leaving and then right after a giant shadow appeared on the ground and as I looked up a Bald Eagle sailed over my head being chased by crows.

Nice find Chris! Personal favorite of mine. Are you getting all of these in the same area?

Thanks, I'll have to check them out over the summer. Thanks for sharing all these great photos. For now I'll have to live vicariously through you.

Another white whale off my checklist! American Redstart. For some reason I've never really seen one- just a flash once. Guess where? My own front yard. These oak trees in front have been a haven for migrating warblers, which is great because the last two days have been rainy and wet and I don't feel like treking:

Absolutely stunning bird. Black and white with bright orange wing bars and patches of orange on tail. He was going nuts chasing a rival male all up and down the tree. For those that don't know Warblers really only are seen for about a month here on the east coast. End of April till end of May. Sure some of species may breed here but for the most part they breed deep in north Canada. Their journey is pretty incredible because they winter in South America. So I'm on high alert looking for them for the few weeks they pass through- hence why I'm out every day and posting.

    Hi;
My younger brother has been an avid birder for years; I don't have the patience or attention span although I enjoy seeing them and being outdoors. Recently he let me in on a secret; since he's a food broker/merchandiser, he has long since planned out a series of routes that take him through all the best parks and sites for birding while he's out and about visiting stores and restaurants. Keeps the glasses in the car, he's good to go! He took me around in early spring and I saw amazing stuff. I now know where the urban osprey nests (damn big, too) are and other such goodies. Makes me appreciate how tough it is to get good bird and wildlife pics. Nice thread!

Yesterday walking my dog through the woods I spotted a male Scarlet Tanager. I'm new to this so it was pretty exciting spot. I was fumbling to grab my phone/snap a photo and it was too late. The brief research I did informed me that they are seldom seen because they're typically in the upper canopy area of trees.
