How does ordering from Project 1/6 work? I notice that it's somehow tied to my Yahoo Japan account with Celga. So ordering through Project 1/6 would incur all of the fees and exchange rate associated with Celga. not a terrible thing I suppose, but is there a way to order directly from Project 1/6?

You can order directly from the Medicom/Rakuten website, but a large number of the items do not ship internationally, which is probably why when you go to the site it is linking to your celga account.

Hey ultra 999--you should have introduced yourself at the opening! Actually the photo shows the Fire prototype in the center. the Fire and Storm protos were the first vinyls of any kind I'd ever painted and the colors are subdued. Hope you enjoyed the show.

i was informed that night that "garakuta" means something like junkyard debris? i always thought the "gara" part was a reference to garamon. i didn't realize it was a play on words on multiple levels!

anyway, thank you for the correction and backstory. the description order has been updated here and on flickr. any other interesting tidbits or thought process you'd like to share?

Garamon's name is a contraction of "Garadama Monster" and the "garadama" is a "rattle ball;" that's what the meteor in the Ultra Q episode is called. "Garakuta" is rubbish, debris, junk. There's at least one collector's shop in Japan called 'Garakuta." I added "gigas" from the classical Greek meaning "giant." I really should work more on a printable version of "his" story but that's been on my plate for years...

Very cool, I had no idea about the double meaning either. Thanks for the additional info Alex!

thanks for sharing! that's great to know. little bits like that add so much to the character of a toy. it'd be fun to read his story in the form of a single page comic. know of a good writer/illustrator who could help with that? ;)
