Haha, right? Thanks, man -- I've always liked this guy's head sculpt (and the nod to Seabozu), and just recently learned that his name is Tohtuka, thanks to Ryuuji letting me know on ig.

I dug up a few more pictures to add:

And with the release of so many great new figures lately, I plan on taking more Amapro pictures in the near future and I'll keep adding to this thread.

Genius is the only word that comes to mind with Amapro!

Ebifuragon: The Fried Shrimp Monster of Dining Table!

Species of 4, all look delicious!

Hoping another batch gets "cooked up" soon, these are a must have for me.

Perfection is another word that you might want to consider.

Very cool indeed... and tasty too!

I assume/hope that these are minis. A lot of fun, I can already picture all the food shots with these fellas.

Seems similar to one of the Chima Group figures...

I agree that the color is similar, but sculpt is not even close,
the Chima look like Chima and Amapro look like Amapro.

I seem to recall another company doing the "fried shrimp"
colorway as well, maybe an older Yamomark mini figure?

Besides how else would fried shrimp get painted?

Clear Brown would look nice and also in Peach,
I love the fact Amapro did 4 unique heads too.

I would wear this outfit if I could find one for sale:

Never saw this black Mecha Gonira until earlier today, it's very nice:

I don't see what that giant skateboard image has to do with it, but the two are pretty similar for whatever reason (granted the Chima figure is a croquette, not a fried shrimp):

Just kind of weird to see Amapro pop out a 'food kaiju' vinyl. He usually doesn't follow trends.

That Mecha-Gonilla is a one-off custom by Grumble Toy from the first Skullbrain custom show.

I like that lil guy too, however that's a "crab" croquette, not a fried shrimp. Tho you may find them on the same plate if you choose the seafood platter.

The 2 toys do go well together, but aside from being 2 separate crustacean food items with a similar colorway, the crab looks like a Chima toy (which is a very specific style), where the shrimp does not.

@kichigai I love these ebi tempura, but I never saw this clear version of Naruton, that's a middle size right ?
Don't forget Rarigonika half gorilla / half crab :

With "trends", I think akum6n is referring to the food yokai minis of late like Science Patrol's Melon Pan Monster and Yamomark's Gyozara fried dumpling. But I wouldn't say that it's food based yokai that've become so popular as much as it is yokai characters in general. These same makers are creating non food related, other types of yokai toys as well. I also don't think it's anymore a trend than kaiju; it's a fun subject that allows for interesting storytelling through bizarre characters and welcomes a lot of creativity. I think it just took longer to catch on in the same popular vein as kaiju because the most popular sofvi franchises for so long have revolved around giant monsters (and yes, those that fight them).

When I read or hear the word "trend" it causes a sense of revulsion and disgust for me personally since I associate it with "popular" or done for the "masses" to generate sales through "hype" and in regard to it being associated with Sofvi this seems more of a Western financially based marketing gimmick.

That being said, I find nothing in "trend" nor "popular" with Amapro nor any other Sofvi company that I still enjoy. My point is that Amapro had released food type species years ago so it would simply be incorrect to suggest that Amapro suddenly are following a formula after all these years in the Sofvi Hobby.

To each his/her own, including opinions- valid or otherwise.

@Fedhai- Standard size from the images I have seen,
version was a Kaiju Taro exclusive way back in 2008

Thanks. I wish that were a production version- really like the tones and red eyes.

Forgive me for voicing an unpopular observation.

I guess there was Naruton way back when... forgot about that one. @Fedhai- it is a standard size toy, although there are minis as well (minis are in the same scale as Rarigonika). Does anyone remember whether Naruton was part of the same line as Armor Jack and Rarigonika, or was it produced afterward?

You know what, that bothers me coming from you. Get over whatever that attitude
is coming from and don't push it on me Daniel. I did not attack you nor your opinion,
just rejected it based on historical facts.

I offered the counterpoint to the point you were making, nothing more. So perhaps
I should ask you to forgive me for sharing facts on Amapro and trying to be positive
on a board I hardly recognize these days?

Sorry for appearing quixotic, never my intention in this thread nor otherwise.

For what it is worth there is so much anger and crap going on in the real world
I tried to focus on sharing information here and discussing toys. Eye rolls and
similar snide comments I expect from new folks.

Not from an "old timer" that I actually do respect regardless of this situation!

You would seem already know the answer:

I don't have a problem with you, kichigai, and I appreciate the reminder on Naruton. That said, I don't think my post was untoward.

That's funny that I forgot about the old post I made on the Armor Jack figures. I just can't remember how I concluded which figures were part of that line... must have been from the Amapro website. Unfortunately, the website is dead now, so I can't go back and fact check.

I've only ever laid eyes on two Amapro toys in hand, pictured below. That Gonira is pretty flippin' great, though.

Don't even sweat it, John - Daniel's just bringing a perfectly understandable cynicism over the state of the plastic arts into the wrong temple. Us fogies are all a little raw these days.

Bryce seems to have missed the part where you bumped a neglected thread with news of a wonderful new family of dolls, shared your research and enthusiasm in reaction to related comments, and threw in a picture of a particularly rad Mecha Gonira to boot.

Thanks @kichigai, @boon velvet, @ultrakaiju, @akum6n, @Fedhai and @xSuicide Squadx for keeping this thread fun and interesting.

Damn. Sorry to see dudes who I like and respect bickering over something so trivial. I don't think Ryuuji necessarily tried to jump on any sort of trend but who knows. If he were trying to capitalize off of it, I doubt he'd be charging ~10 bucks for the thing.

Robert -- That Franjyu Dodoro you have seems to be a chase, perhaps. I don't think I've seen that version with black on it. Looking at Mandarake, I do see that there are some others, though, so maybe not. Or maybe Lulubell sold a different version without black? I'm not entirely sure.

Here's a pretty little something to liven up the thread [Edit: And DAMN, do I wish I had that clear standard sized Naruton. I passed on it for too long at Kaiju-Taro ]:

With you on KT- there were so many dolls that we all should have jumped on back then.

Have all you seen the "Kaiju Collection" reviews on youtube? If not check them out- the guy may look familiar.

Really hoping the rumours pan out for the return of the Pachi Summit
