I'd say the main reason is that those new head sculpts are completely devoid of any of the character and charm that the original Genjin & the Four-Eyes possess - but hey, that's just me.

With all this supposed perfectionism and attention to detail, I wonder why Shig started using different and comparatively shitty eyes for the Four-Eyes?

Very nice work FK. I doubt this is quite what anyone was expecting. IMHO the subtlety of the paints is perfect for the sculpt.

I have to agree that the new head sculpts don't fit on the original body. This started with the 4 eyes head in my opinion. But is exaggerated on these new versions. There is a much finer texture applied to these heads. Whereas the body has that chunky BG texture.

A commission from a tabletop artist that does 50 coats on a mini to get a specific look on the figure costs a pretty penny, and with that same mentality you can justify some of the value on these toys. they do look like a lot of work.

Still, I am yet to rationalize buying a toy for an amount of money I dont have. Now, if I had the money to spend on all of this stuff, I would throw it at all those artists and get gazillions of toys and go to shows and buy all of it and go on the bay and just buy it all, but then I'd be somewhat disconnected, I'd be a chump. So I would probably still keep my money, shake my head and hope to win the next PK lottery and find U.S. toys open for once.

I get paying thousands for a vintage Godzilla that has survived the test of time and probably a couple of earthquakes, not for some toy that looks like groundbeef with elmo eyes on it and a very intricate paint scheme.

^ultimately, I like how Nags look. More so the old heads, but these new heads are okay. However, at the end of the day, why pay $850 for a Nag when for that cost, you can get 5-10 way cooler toys? Maybe it's just me, but I would much rather have 8 Zags than one hyped up hipster toy.

I feel like these new sculpts are like parodies/caricatures of the original single-face and siamese. :?
Like, you know, when you go to Six Flags, and that airbrush dude paints you all goofy like with Looney Tunes characters?

Look, if you don't like the new sculpts, flip them! And then Shigeru will get upset and discontinue the sculpt because it wasn't worth his time to spend TWO HOURS PAINTING THE EYES!!!

    All in all, $850 guys.

    Eight hundred. And Fifty. Dollars.

He's being edgy half ironically to bring in the snooty crowdthink art bucks of foolish Americans. He's making all the right connections.

Side note why has Shig only ever collaborated with American Artists? Something to think about.

Add in the fact the Mishka NY and friends have been establishing fake aftermarket prices for years and suddenly the new retail seems reasonable from the outside looking in. (Just as planned!)

Anyone want to know one of the reasons for the flood of freshmeats?

So no pics yet of all the people camping out in the back alley with wads of cash stuffed somewhere on their persons? It's not like you guys have snow on the ground like we do here, surely there must be someone there.

Admittedly picking nits here, but what you're talking about is hipster hype, not the actual American contemporary art scene, where the dollmaker doesn't even register as a blip on the radar. I think you're right on the money about the edgy irony thing. That's hipster gold.

It's a cool banner. Oddly enough I think that the head works well on it's own kind of like the nagball.

    edited for spelling.
