A knock on effect of this however would be to assume that in Hirota's eyes the Asian market doesn't do the same exact thing. That's wrong however, they definitely do. At the end of the day I think it's apparent that Eastern collectors are willing to spend much more money then Westerners do. I mean, compare the amount of whinging from us every time a new piece is released at a premium to the blind obsession of his Eastern devotees. As previously stated collecting Hirota requires cash and copious amounts of ass kissing. That's his style now. I'm not willing to do that for anyone, fuck it! I've been offered Hirota for PK and a blank Itamu at a flipped price but I wasn't down for either based on principle. Modern Hirota is laaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaame

I still have some early stuff but I haven't actively followed or been interested in anything HxS in probably five years.
Won a few lotteries and lost a whole bunch more.
I really don't miss the manufactured hype and hysteria.
Reminds me somewhat of early RxH days.

Would be interesting to see how those circles look, honestly. I've heard a couple of times that mention of a sale/trade to the big man can be grounds for a block, regardless of circumstances. That's just conjecture, but if true I'm sure there's a whole viper's nest of dweeby backstabbing and secret clubs behind the scenes

I mean where is Hirota getting his info on who to ban. Does he wait until someone posts a new piece and then message them to find from who and how much they paid so he can determine if he needs to ban the seller?

Things can get a bit silly around here sometimes. I've heard the same stories about Pushead. I only believe what I see, and what I see is Hirota picking the same small handful of people for just about every release he puts out now. He isn't the only brand where this is happening, it's just the most egregious and obvious

While this might be true now and in the current state, I was talking more along the lines of why we are here now. Some collectors that have now left the scene were from the far east, and paying 1.5-2.5k for releases. Thus many went to those to dump their toys for profits because of how much they were receiving for it. this of course boost HxS because whoa these are worth X amount. I totally agree now that easterners are willing to spend more, but this wasn't always the case. Today is a new beast versus the rise of HxS. Those of us were around as casual Hirota fans checking the blog daily hoping for an update and that we made that lotto window. compared to the Social Culture Vulture fan base now

Won’t name names but I had a legitimate Hirota collecting friend who was blocked for no reason (he flew to a show in Japan and everything) so I believe the vultures dibby dobbing on each other within the in circle to Hirota would 100% be real.

EDIT: also worth noting he did reach out to clarify but it fell on deaf ears.

Sounds like the fame and constant praise has gotten to Hirota's head... too bad he's turned into a prick. As nice as his toys look on the shelf it's hard to be a fan of the toys when you find out the person making them is a bit of a twat.

Over the last year or two I've seen Hirota ban many of original fans / collectors because of his non-sense double standard. AFAIK (from people that I trust) it was those people who were throwing large sums to acquire pieces, showed Hirota who they were getting their toys from, which he would then ban. Westerner's didn't create the current scenario, by and large they were hit up with offers. They did not all become opportunists. This has happened with many collectors in Japan as well. If HxS really stands by his rules at some point he will have no one to sell to, since the big spenders have started reselling now. Hold on to those DM's you start to receive offering you pieces to buy and send em to Hirota......

I was talking to a fellow board member on the phone about this a few weeks ago. He had the suspicion that these new big spenders are also trying to poison the well with the maker to increase their chances. I think @eckotyper coined a fairly apt term for these new hobbyists: social culture vultures. I saw the same people sucking up one brand like a vacuum to trade for another. Right now that pinnacle is Hirota but frankly out of all the brands out there I can't think of one that turns me off more with the behavior between fan and artist.

Thought I would check in to see if the conversation was still the same years later and no surprises.. such a shame that this is where HxS is now. I really loved those toys.

With virtually everything heading directly into the Asian market and zero opportunities for European/Western collectors, it's an almost a waste of time/effort discussing either positively or negatively anything he does any more.

    Sad, but true.

I’ve always been really glad for his success, even if I don’t think he’s spending enough time painting the eyes.

HxS has moved to kaws territory now, just skipped over NNN, didn’t pass GO, didn’t collect $200. Just straight to ‘private’ sales and killing the fun altogether from those of us that enjoyed his sales methods, a lot. whether we got a toy or not. The chance was a communal aspect that I feel was worth it given the name recognition

Not only there are tons of toys that have the quality and attention to detail he has, but also his sales methods are a total turn off now. Reminds me of those boutiques or galleries with appointment views where the hardest part is getting the contact info.

The color flyer is kinda cute tho. Good rip there.

It’s like someone who only sells at some obscure event to his already informed pals during some secret gala.
What a bore, I already have to put up with that crap on my own profesional life so much that I’d rather not mix it with my hobbies.

The robots got uninspiring pretty fast, just repos of repos. I wish he got back to the Kaiju or the battle sets or just not so many robots.

robots, skulls, and putrid textures Ad nauseam is what has made this medium exhausted to the KidRobot degree. It’s also what’s put it on the pop map

One can only hope the wheel turns soon like it always does

Same response I have with all Hirota: I like the toy, not the price tag.

I think it's a fun take on the KinGoji. I have a love/hate relationship with that suit. A lot of toys get it right, either in terms of accuracy or essence, while others fall short. This one successfully captured some key aspects that are staple to the character while adding a nice personal touch. Some might hate it but I really appreciate the shortened tail as Godzilla toys can often be arduous to display. I don't view it as being disproportionate given the stylistic direction. Overall I think it was a masterful execution and a welcome renovation of the original design.

I'm not surprised by the price but it does seem a bit much if we're to expect a typical Medicom edition size. However, I'm thinking it will be much more limited than that. I'm sure cutting it down by at least 15,000yen would feel a bit more fair, but given Hirota's hand in it one might consider it a bargain.

Since he's only mentioned releasing the Godzilla at the upcoming show, I wouldn't consider it a typical Medicom release at all. That said I couldn't tell from the translation whether Medicom is just providing their stamp, or if they have a hand in production. If the latter, I hope this sees a wider release.

It’s cool. textures and paint applications all hit the mark. Just real bummed If it’s a limited thing.

I don’t even know how it operates, but there Is a whole scene of very high priced marmit Godzilla releases, that are all priced around the same level. So it’s crazy yes, but in the Same ball park as many Marmit releases.
