I've recently moved to a new apartment with my partner and Ramen, their cat. Ramen has been a model roommate so far, but we keep her litter-box in the same room as some of the toys, and today she left perhaps the most fragrant surprise I've had the misfortune of smelling in my life right there. I know smoking around your dolls will affect the smell, so I'm wondering if this is the same. More directly: are my dolls going to start smelling like cat turds? I know smoke hangs in the air which is very different, but hey, I'm new to the whole pet thing and have no idea. Also I owe you something for reading this far, so here's a photo of the adorable culprit, and a portrait Bwana painted of her last year.
I have a follow up question. The 'everything room' where I have my only display constantly smells of vintage toys - especially now in this heat. So my query is, as I am always looking to get a cat, will be cat start smelling like vintage toys?* * Disclaimer: not saying this would be a bad thing..... PS - Ramen is adorable, i suspect will not lead to any negative impact, except many, many toppled toys (and photo session bombs)
She's been really good so far! Leaves the shelves alone, although she hops onto desks and tables all the time. For some reason she really likes my Chima construction guy; I left it on the floor while setting up and she kept rubbing her head on it.
Aw. She isn't always so fragrant, right? I find a little fan in the room helps to dispel, and also the litter you use is a big factor. ps~ I think the toys will be fine
Nah she's very clean, 10/10 cat. I'll go with the little fan since I also work in here we switched litter recently since the choice was between one that suppressed the smell more effectively, and one that wouldn't track all over the floor
I had a cat box in my display room for about a year before I moved into my new house. Lemme tell you she can really drop a stinker. I never had any residual smell on the dollies and I admittedly wasn't the best at keeping up with the box all of the time.
For solving the tracking problem I think it's key to have the box on a good rug/mat. I have one that's netted (specifically for litter box use) and it's great. I also have it positioned in way so that they have to walk along it before getting to the wood floor. Cat nerds unite!
The only problem I've ever had with pets, if a problem, is that for some toys that off-gas and 'sweat' the pet hair can stick there and one has to be extra diligent to dust off. I was in Asia for some years and my apts were always extremely small, so I got in the habit of dusting off regularly. Other than that a nuke from the furry roomate is par for the course. Super cute kitty btw
Cats normally bury their poop. Except for the Alpha. I seen't it! Poop blooms for a bit then dissipates. Just make sure your toy room has a window you can open to move the air around. It's pee you have to watch out for.
Maybe get one of those litter boxes that is concealed in a crate? They usually have air filters in the sides. They seemed to work great when I had a cat. Keeps the litter from going everywhere too! Clean them cat turds daily!!!!
^ Yeah actually just came back here to suggest that. I invested in one of the 'house' style crates, not because of some particularly potent droppings, but because our kitteh loved to throw his litter e.v.e.r.y.w.h.e.r.e. And actually it does a great job to keep the odour inside even with a large opening/door, and greatly reduces the spreading of dust around the room/apartment.
My cat leaves litter, food and fur everywhere sometimes scabs (she has a condition) poop stinks like real bad but never latched on to anything but my nostrils lol. Cute name and cute cat btw!
