So totally out of my league. And yeah, sorry about any unintentional mislaying of the price, I put it in yen at the bottom, but obviously seeing the conversion rates now this is much different in USD (not my currency, so apologies). Corrected for clarity.

Techno loader Planet Base is my favorite toy of all time, but I figured I wouldn't necessarily care about Iluilu's next release whenever it did happen. Then the first teaser hit and it was a dinosaur and I was equal parts excited and worried.
I agree that these pieces are absolutely incredible and the art across the board, from the packaging and design to the toys themselves is stunning. It still saddens me that it's so rare and going to be incredibly tough to get, but iII be trying all the same. I hope some of the dino cars make an appearance in the future in a bigger fashion with more numbers and a lower cost like the techno loaders poster sets. Things like the lenticular TV's are so damn good, it would be a shame for something so awesome to have such limited distribution.

It's a beautiful package and far more my thing than the last Uzumark release, which was in a similar ballpark. Happy to see the scope and ambition of Ilu Ilu's work growing even more, but I did treat the announcement with some disappointment. I'm getting the impression that any future releases, at least as long as the hype keeps up, will be out of bounds for me. Wouldn't be comfortable even saving for it.

I'm always curious with such limited numbers of releases, how many samples they paint to find the colorways they will release? The choices are always perfect.

I think that is the same for me, too. Seeing something so amazing, and Ilu Ilu's ever incredible output being pushed with each release, it's almost bitter-sweet. The eye candy aspect of it and enjoyment for it's beauty and execution - and looking at just those vinyl toys for example, you can tell how talented an artist and creator he is - now comes along with his brand reaching a whole other level of collecting. That is sort of what I was trying to say earlier, but didn't articulate very well. I still recall buying Ilu Ilu stuff at retail (oh Grumble Toy/@3x3is9, I miss you for so many reasons!), and working hard on drop days and making trips to a local conbini to complete payment for releases in Japan. Now though we are at real gallery-only style levels. And I am super happy and salute the success he has had. But I also can see place for both aspects of the genre to exist simultaneously, i.e. wider-produced stuff for general community enjoyment, and then the super high-end special releases which establish and elevate the artistry. I don't think the former takes anything away from the latter, but I guess that's just me. And in a world where so much art/pop culture has become appropriated and commercialised to the point of ubiquity, I can appreciate the importance of drawing a line. I also respect not every artist wants to go down this route. For Ilu Ilu though, unlike some other toys, I don't think it is the same story of 'hype' driving these (though that certainly does play into it). Bottom line is I am super thrilled that these exist, and love to enjoy even knowing and seeing them, but for myself and probably a lot of average toy collectors, it has ceased to become something on the same level of collecting as we are familiar with.

Saw the pricetag and my mind instantly leapt to the NNN comparison, but you are right . . . the production values, attention to detail and quality across this release probably justify the tag, as insane as it is.

Unlike the 'it takes 4 hours to paint each eye' bullshit!

Yes, just creating that poster art itself, is such a labor of love that needs to be rolled into the overall pricing.

I could never NEVER justify paying 1800 for a toy that sits on the shelf. Congrats to those that can. But paying that much for something that essentially sits there collecting dust? Move it every so often....and dust it..etc. Too crazy.

I really love that new dino toy, but that price....it just makes me sad. Ilu Ilu creates such beautiful looking toys and box designs. Bums me out knowing they are made for a whole different type of collector that must exist in some alternate reality from the one I live in.
I'll just continue to admire photos whenever I see one pop up :)

Edit: Just look at the skin on his head that burst open when that laser blaster popped out of it... so cool

    Naruton

We thought we would share this picture of the large Naruton.
Naruton is a character that was designed by Amapro in Japan. His face is based on an ingredient sometimes found in Japanese soup.

Naruton is a very funny character indeed. :)

Echoing everyone's sentiments about not being able to reach this high price point for such a beautiful and artful set. With all the extra goodies and packaging, it deserves its own shelf to appreciate everything. I hope we get to see some great display setups from this set at the least.

I can definitely see all the packaging/ephemera printing costs contributing a large chunk to the cost here by basing it off US printing costs for assumedly such low runs and quality materials. When you aren't printing in bulk, the costs can be astronomical for seemingly simple print jobs.

I'd be happy with just one of the cars ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Good point- Sakaguchi sure gets paid a premium for vinyl dollies with only 2-3 points of articulation. :dam:

Definitely tough to say anything negative about this set though, excepting the price. It does look like a ton of thought and effort went into it.

edit- just seeing the size, it’s cool to see Ilu doing stuff on a larger scale. I’ve always loved his toys, it’s just been tough to swallow all the time, money and effort that goes into collecting Ilu to end up with one 3/4 full detolf shelf.

Agreed--this was the stuff of dreams for me when I started out in this thread cluelessly asking about prices

And I have my limits, but for better or worse I'm still swallowing ;)

I've seen the odd secret release (and know nothing about them really), but never a blank of any Ilu Ilu toy

His packaging is so goddamn good it's ridiculous. It's genuinely one of the aspects of design I wish other makers would focus on over a bag and a header. Ilu Ilu and Uzumark were the only toys whose packaging I kept in my display case

Oh boy, this toy has a belly / hatch, I hadn't even noticed! So much attention to details, packaging and the quality of paint application. This toy is madness!

I am still just so in love with this toy. I don't care how over-hyped or 'status symbol' it becomes now to own one of these, I respect them as toys which I think they are meant to be, and if I could ever dream of having one to hold, I know I would play the heck out of it. Every picture is such a delight to see, but short of winning the lottery or something, it'll forever be one the virtual beauties I keep ogling online.

Even though I really like this toy, I think I would never consider paying this amount of price for a brand new toy...
I mean, some people are not even gaining 180,000yens as a monthly salary...
    It's a toy...
