    Pizzatron.

Never seen it before and would probably never buy just because most of the paint apps don't float my boat (s'all subjective) . . . but definitely 'Toy of the Year' so far!

    LOVE IT!

I haven't listened to it, but I believe that this might be the video in question. He has clarified further in comments on subsequent posts I believe.

Untitled (Cockasaur). I don't even know if its actually for a toy, I was just 'dicking' around.

Might be a little cheaper to go into a sex shop and buy a dildo, then superglue action figure limbs to it if that’s what people are into?

    In his Instagram posts.

He posts about his experiences like everyone else. If putting all his money into every project that he’s currently working on brings him close to bankruptcy I think he has the right to share his feelings about it. In this age even established artists have to grind and hustle to manifest their visions. It’s a level of transparency I appreciate as an artist and I don’t get the vitriol directed at him.

It’s probably more about his statements on getting into sofubi because the money is here now, it isn’t a reason that resonates with hardcore Sofubi collectors. There’s probably also concern his presence will attract more hype beasts and make hard to collect items even more difficult to obtain. His sofubi arm of business aside, I’ve always liked his art. Though I do think he is more driven by fame and being a public figure than any kind of artistic mission, which Instagram has kind of amplified. It’s probably because of the perception he tries to create, hanging with famous celebrities, working with the priciest fashion houses, attending ritzy fashion parties and openings, it’s probably just hard for the average person to sympathize after he has painted this picture of himself being a superstar.

I admit I'd never heard of Huajiadi* before. Even silly cock shaped turtles can teach you something ...

*Huajiadi is a neighbourhood at the northeast corner of Chaoyang District in Beijing. It is one of the places where artists from all over China gather. The artist residents of this neighborhood have represented one of the avant-garde art movements in China and have occupied a significant place in Chinese art history.

I understand your point. It’s part of the art world tho is it not? Who else can afford the price tags on his art but celebrities? It’s who you know. As far as being driven by fame... a huge chunk of modern and post modern artists. I mean Warhol and Basquiat spring to mind. I think the drivers and the art can be held separately.

I didn’t even know about this person until this thread, and I am completely ignorant of his art outside of a quick google search and his last 12 IG posts, but...

if dude was hanging out with celebrities (and presumably selling art to them at “high art” prices) maybe he should have saved a little money instead of funding his own movie and whatnot... I get being an artist and having a passion to create, but if you’ve achieved the level of success this guy seems to have, having savings shouldn’t be that tough.

I find no joy in watching artists struggle.

The fine art market heavily relies upon wealthy benefactors buying/ donating.
Right now, that’s not happening like it was last year. That money “trickles down” ;)

nothing like having an MFA and making minimum wage, if that... at some museum or art house.

W/ costs and overhead, even well known artists have a hard time making it.
    Dealers and artists suffer.

The toy scene is more viable because the price point is more attainable and the collective is easier to understand/empathize with.

The system doesn’t work well but, during the Covid it’s become far worse. Overheard is getting more expensive and collectors are less likely to spend.
The art industry is quickly having to reevaluate how it operates.

No, the guy probably kissed his biceps while gazing at his own face in the mirror.
